This might sound strange to you, but there are people out there who run 5 mans and either don't want to, or are unable to raid.

I know it's shocking... maybe even a little bit weird, but they are out there.

I adore fishing, and when on my rogue, get annoyed when interrupted by a mob. Swapping weapons is annoying, so I just auto attack it with a fishing pole til it dies. This woulda made things quicker, and yes, was still a help to actual fishers.

This sounds like a troll post, Palehoof, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and respond. For example, the Titansteel Destroyer (crafted weapon) has 186.5 dps but better stats. I think we could all agree that perhaps 186.5 dps was excessive (though attractive) for this fishing pole. But to nerf it down to only 9 dps without explanation is just too much. Even with underwater breathing, it no longer deserves the color purple.

And it was indeed fun to be able to fend off trash mobs with this whilst fishing. It made the long Kalu'ak reputation grind seem worthwhile. To have this item destroyed down to the level of grey vendor trash is inexcusable and unforgiveable, especially without a posted blue response to all the threads and posts requesting one. I can no longer trust what Blizzard might do in future patches to be reasonable.

I have a suggestion that coud add back to the usefueness for removing the DPS on equip this pole reduces threat by x% it would be an easy thing to add other items in the game have this on them and then we would be less likely to need the DPS because we would not get attacked as often

still seems wrong to take a utility away from an "epic" item without at least substituting it with a new utility

Buff the +fishing and add a -X seconds to fishing time, IMO.

The basic reason that I am ticked about this is that I did pay a lot more for the item and that the item had an unusual amount of dps. Unusual=Different. The little things sometimes matter.

All epic mounts are basically the same right? So the difference between a hawkstrider and a spectral tiger is appearance. Appearance and uniqueness mean something. Pet-Companions have no use at all. But people grind to get them.

I understand that there was an unintended effect that a feral druid could use to have raid level dps. Ok the coding to alter that is exceedingly simple. Attacking with a Fishing Pole is silly anyways..but watching a fairly strong mob in wintergrasp die from two to three hits with a fishing pole is hilarious.

One- we paid alot for that pole now those who do pay for it pay copper? Like buying epic flying for 125 gold. Interesting and annoying. Like now having Nelfs able to buy spectrals like any other epic mount (same cost)

Two- It had a unique quality for a fishing pole. insane dps. but unless you had a high fishing skill to go with it it was useless as a weapon.

Yes it is a fishing pole. Yes we fish with it. It is the original cost and its uniqueness we valued. we feel it is lost both. This bothers us.

I don't think that people are so upset that it was nerfed as much as their upset that they grinded rep till exalted and then paid 100+ gold for something that was then nerfed and its value reduced to less than a silver piece.

WoTLK goes live with old version of Kaluak fishing pole.
Feral AP from weapons gets changed in a later patch.
Kaluak fishing pole DPS gets reduced in a patch after the feral AP change.

It was probably an oversight from when they modified feral AP mechanics.

the action taken to nerf this 'exploit' were the definition of 'swatting flies with a sledgehammer'.

add level requirement and you would have only annoyed the annoying, I.E. twinks and weirdos looking for ways to get a level unrestricted high-as-hell DPS weapon.

Here's a question:

Has anyone checked to see if Blizz nerfed the other items in game that are for gathering professions but people have used as weapons? I mean, it wouldn't be fair if blizz nerfed only fishing poles while allowing people to use mining axes or skinning daggers as weapons right?

(The main one I'm thinking about is the one mining axe you get from Hellfire in outland)
