NOTE: As of 3/30 I'm finished restocking and have plenty of kits available. If you're interested, send me a mail or a shout in-game.

I started my own little in-game service on my home server of Scilla in which I assist people in leveling their cooking skill. I've been doing this for about 6 weeks, and things were going so well I was curious if I could expand operations out to other servers. Some of my guildies have alts here so I figured it would be a good place to give it a try.

The service includes everything to get you from skill 1 to 400; mats, recipes, cookbooks, quest requirements, as well as personal instruction. I'll stand next to you, hand you things and tell you how much to cook. This is nothing like what you might think of as a 'leveling service' that uses your login to take control of your character and do the work for you. You're still in charge; I'm just making things much, much easier for you.

If you're curious as to why I only level to 400, it's due to how cooking is currently structured. All but one of the standard Northrend recipes goes green at 382 and gray at 415. Getting to 400 burns quite a bit of meat, and 415 would waste a lot more. At 400 you can begin training the high-buff recipes which you purchase with tokens from doing the Dal cooking dailies. It's far more effecient to progress in this fashion, and you'll have to do the cooking dailies regardless if you want to pass 415. Because I wanted to only train what I could complete in one sitting, 400 seemed the best place to stop.

I'll be the first to admit that this isn't rocket science. If you weren't aware of it, there are scads of cooking guides available to which Google can point you. There's no secret to how to go about this, but it is a bit of a pain. By all means if you want to save money then go out and do this on your own. It takes about 6 or so hours to farm everything you'll need. You can try buying things on the AH, but you'll always end up with holes you'll need to fill, and that means going out and gathering yourself.

I charge 1250g for the service. Some people seem to think that's a waste of money, but I've already successfully run more than forty people through this and I've gotten nothing but positive feedback. A couple people told me I should be charging more. If the price sounds too high, then you'd probably be better off farming the stuff youself. If, however, you're like a lot of my clients, you can probably bring in a fair amount of money in the hours you'd spend on this, so why not have someone else do the scut work?

If you've already gotten started, prices decrease on a sliding scale. If your current skill falls in the range in the left column, then your price for leveling to 400 appears immediately to the right. For instance, if you were currently at skill 123, then it would cost 1150g to reach 400.

0 - 50 skill: 1250g
51 - 100: 1200g
101 - 150g: 1150g
151-225: 1100g
226 or higher: 750g

Soon I'll start asking my Khadgar customers if they'd stop by and leave a note so that others can get some reviews on my service. As for now, I'd like to point you to my forum on Scilla. If you scroll down about halfway on the first page the comments begin, and continue on through the second. Near the end of the second page I've left comments from both Kreight on Scilla and Trischa on Khadgar so that you can see we're the same person.

I assume this means that if your cooking skill level is already between 0 and 50, then she will charge the 1250g, which makes sense, since the most mats and recipes are needed. It probably does need to be rephrased to make it clearer though, as I kind of did a double take at it as well when I first read it.

That said, what a cool idea. I know there are plenty of people who would easily just drop a load of cash just to get certain skills levelled up quickly. And cooking is a real nuisance to do if you haven't been levelling it as you level your character.

Good luck to your enterprise. :)

I misunderstood then, thank you for clearing that up if that was the intent. It still seems way high just for cooking. To each his own though, good luck to you.

It really doesn't.

That is both an articulate, well thought out post, and a solid business plan.

What do you know? Some people apparently can't read.

I'm well aware of the existence of online cooking guides, and I pointed this out in my original post. And El's Angling is a fantastic reference which I urge everyone to go take a look at. They've got a great guide that explains how to level cooking and fishing at the same time. Here, go look:

http://www.elsanglin.com/fishing_and_cooking_alliance.html

If you want to get your cooking up on the cheap that is absolutely the way to do it. In fact, that is the guide I used to put together my prototype leveling kit a few months ago. I've tweaked it a bit since then, however.

But I'm not charging people just to tell them what to cook. I don't think anyone is that dumb. I provide all of the meat, the spices, the recipes, the cookbooks, the quest requirements, and I stand next to you during the whole process, hand you mats and tell you exactly what to do.

This isn't any big secret. Gathering the mats is not difficult. It's just tedious. Think you can buy all of them on the AH? Go give it a shot. If it's so damned easy, everyone would be maxed out in cooking. I guarantee you won't find everything you need.

As I mentioned before, if you have trouble making money, then don't waste yours with me. But there are people out there who can afford this easily who would just prefer to not be bothered with doing it themselves. Let's be realistic. People will drop 5,000g just to get a new mount that aside from looks does nothing different than the one they started with. And there are lots of folks who spend thousands on vanity pets that don't do @@%!. And where do you think those pets come from? Hours and hours of mind-numbing farming. Sound familiar?

I've been on Khadgar a week, and I've sold 6 kits already. I paid back my start up loan, and I'm up almost 6,000g. On Scilla I've got more than 40 customers under my belt. Those are people that have paid me. I've gotten probably twice that many positive comments from people that think it's a great idea.

If you don't think it's worth the money, that's fine. But don't call it a scam, because it's not. It's a business. And don't tell me it won't sell, because regardless of what the naysayers think of it, I have trouble keeping up with the demand.

No on the lottery thing. Though oddly enough, I'd never seen it before then I saw it show up on Khadgar the same day I saw it show up on Scilla. Maybe they're doing it everywhere.

As for where the money's going, I haven't decided. Right now this is like my WoW version of Lemonade Stand; I'm just having fun messing around with an in-game business. I might dump it all on my Scilla guildie's toon, or maybe I'll stand in the middle of Stormwind and start throwing money at people. It's more about enjoying the journey than the end result.

Thanks for the support!

I'm just finishing up a marathon fishing session. I've got the mats for at least six kits; probably one or two more once I get all the leftovers together from the first bunch and sort through them all.

I'll be running around picking up recipes in the next few hours, and then it'll take a couple hours to get all the kits together. I should have them all ready to go by this evening. I've got a couple people on a waiting list already, so if you're interested, shoot me a message in game and see what I can do about saving one for you.

Well like most people i can only log at certain times of the day for certain time periods.(2 hours on weekdays and i am only on when i raid on weekends) So i was never able to lvl up my cooking which i always wanted to. So i saw her proposal and decided hey i have an access amount of gold i might as well. So i did it. And what can i say... it was amazing. She stayed with me the whole time and gave me everything for quests and some recipes plus everything i would need for the recipes to lvl. I couldn't have asked for better service.

Trischa,

Thanks for creating this business, it was well worth the 1250g. You are the nicest, honest person I know in this game that is willing to take their time to do something like this. I mean gawsh...you give me all the mats hand-to-hand, let me pay afterwards to make me feel secure, adn you even give me a coupon to pass along to other people I know! Please keep up the good work and may the light be with you!

PS- Your welcome for the guild invite, glad I could give you a home. Ah yes, don't listen to these forum trolls, they are just trying to get to you..../ignore ftw!

Thanks again and good luck!

Don't worry about it. It's not like I'm participating in the guild in any way. And someone just lent me a guild for storage space, so I would have had to quit anyway.

Thanks for the nice words! Also, an update for those interested in purchasing. I had 6 kits ready to go Saturday morning and was a little miffed at how slowly they were selling. Then all of a sudden I went through 5 of them in a few hours. The last one is spoken for, so if you'd like one it'll be a few days before farming efforts get inventory back up.

Awesome job Tri!! Grats on a great idea that has helped numerous folks like myself. I never bothered leveling my cooking due to always wanting to raid or do something less monotonous!

The process is as advertised, quick and smooth. For that price, it was well worth it to have someone along the entire way with every recipe and the mats to cruise to the finish line!! I highly recommend it to anyone who needs/wants to level their cooking with someone who delivers....thanks again Tri!!

PS.....give me a call 5 minutes before you start throwing out the gold in SW, I wanna get there first!! :}
