As a player of a healing-enabled class (druid) currently dps-specced (moonkin), I had initially planned to fork over the 1k gold come Patch 3.1 and have the option to heal in raids, especially for heal-intensive fights in Ulduar.

But even a glance at healing come 3.1 would be enough to make anyone else in my position rethink dual-speccing as a healer. Mana Regeneration nerfs, specifically targeted at healer mana? Lifebloom and Regrowth nerfs, specifically to corner druids into paladin-style stationary flash healing?

This is not merely summary of QQ. I want to address a stated Blizzard position:

Blizzard, you are specifically relying on dual-speccing to alleviate the current healer shortage. From a DPSer, let me say this -- those of us interested in dual-speccing into healer roles pay attention to healer-related changes, and we are not going to blindly spend 1k gold to sit in coach when we already have a nice seat in business class. If you make healing so burdensome as the current changes would suggest, your reliance on dual-speccing to add more healers is misplaced. It will more likely allow main-specced healers to experiment with, and eventually transition to, other roles.

I, for one, do not plan to pick up tree form for 1,000 g given the current proposed changes. I know I am not alone.

In 3.1 they made healing harder. The people who will put up with that are already healers. It's far more likely that dps will use dual spec to have an alternative dps spec rather than a healer spec. It will primarliy give healers a pvp spec.

Blizzard doesn't care as long as you pay the $15 a month.

So why wouldn't you still get it to dual spec feral?

only reason I even wanted a Dual Spec was to help with leveling. Was going to have a Leveling Spec and a Dungeon running Spec.

Then they decide Dual spec is for level 80s only.

So I won't bother. I'll hit 80, go back to a healing spec, and then go play a different character. I'll dust my priest off when my guild needs me to heal a run.

Changed it to level 40.

I think its funny that Blizzard continues to balance this game on the least played role in the game. I used to heal on both my druid and priest, but I no longer play my priest at all and I will most likely only pick up dual spec if my guild pays for it since feral is my primary spec but I will go tree if absolutely needed, and as I said, is paid for by my guild.

As a healer that loves healing come hell or high water I'll be using dual spec mostly to be able to switch glyphs between raid-centric healing and tank-centric healing. Maybe my spec will change slightly but probably not.

As an alternative, you could choose from one of these specs:

• Moonkin PvE
• Moonkin PvP
• Kitty dps PvE
• Kitty PvP (maybe some talents in resto to help you survive?)

If you don't like PvP, then maybe just have Moonkin as one spec, and kitty dps for fun as a second spec?

if you ever plan on respecing more than 20 times you should pick up dual spec, well actully much less once you factor in glyph costs

also for some of us, 2 isn't enough, i need at least 3, but i'll take what i get

I don't mind the respec cost as much as having to run back and forth from the trainer, re-assign specs, and rearrange my toolbars everytime I do so.

That, and $1,000 is not really that much money in Wrath - I went back and did some leveling quests last night just for kicks, and made $800 gold in one night from quest rewards without even trying.

Gold is really easy to get right now with professions. I usually sat with 2,000 gold on my Priest in BC, but then WOTLK came out and I was making almost 4,000 gold a week selling Glyphs on the AH for the first two months.
