As soon as they fix the audio system as a whole you'll be welcome to turn off voip as soon as you log in.

This is just more than just the voice system holding up the patch.

Live or die trying.
It seems mages were saving more money than originally intended. Any money saved will now be reduced by 10% and will break frost nova.

But then they have a voice chat program where they can control it and, hence, be ultimately responsible to the community. If TS or Vent breaks down currently, you can't come complain to Blizzard. They can't tell TS and Vent to get their stuff together.

Just a thought.

And what if they're trying to put the finishing touches on it as we speak so it will go out tomorow?

I certainly hope the patch isn't being delayed by some "non-gamebreaking" feature, like say Voice Chat?

It's in testing and when we feel it's ready, it will be released. We rarely ever give dates on patch releases and this is one of those occasions where we don't plan on giving a specific release date.

Its pretty awesome, waiting for months for a new patch, because of a feature nobody wanted, and nobody needed.

How often does that happen, and I guarantee you if you use vent often you probably know someone who else has a server and would let you use it. Not to mention what kind of all sorts of reporting is going to happen. Could you imagine getting reported for letting a certain word slip? That's the beauty of vent no rules, and you can't be penalized for letting a word slip without having to worry about getting reported.

It doesn't matter how often a mishap occurs with Vent or TS... However unlikely it is, something horrendous could occur with either of those software packages that either crashes because of WoW or crashes WoW, or heaven knows, loads you up with some nasty virus. Blizzard wouldn't be beholdent to the community on this if it was because of TS or Vent's software. But they can be if they control the software. I'm not saying that anything would ever happen to break Vent or TS. I like both programs and use em. I'm just making a point that when Blizz voice chat goes live, we now have someone to take it to directly when it bugs out or causes a crash.

This isn't about keeping anyone in the dark so much as not wanting to give out dates that could be missed for patches. Generally this creates expectations from people that may not be met on that particular date. We like to be as sure as possible when it comes to giving dates. We have made exceptions to giving dates in the past due to information that was needed prior to release such as the end of an Arena Season if you recall. Even then we warned everyone that it was possible we would miss that date. Things do happen and thus delays can happen as well.

What is annoying is having a patch with big bug fixes and changes being held up for something such as VOIP. Another week or 2 of the current Mother Shahraz is going to make me want to shoot someone. And the longer 2.2 is held up the longer it takes for ZA to be put up on the PTR which in turn pushes ZA back for when it will be on the live realms.

To me VOIP is not content. I use Vent/TS just like every other player that actually uses VOIP already. So basically things are being held up for a bug fix patch with some minor changes and some new sound system and VOIP which mean nothing to the majority of the playerbase.

I think most players understand why Blues don't give release dates. But this is not what we asking for. We want to know why this current patch is taking such a long time coming out...since technically there's no real new content to this patch. So by not keeping us in the dark...it will help if you and your colleagues shed some light on what's going on. Even if it's simply diecting us to the right sources.

When the game first came out, Blizzard used to give release dates for patches and missed them frequently.

Instead of announcing dates and projects and running the risk of potentially angering some people, you keep everyone in the dark and thereby annoying most people...makes perfect sense.

I wonder what would happen if Blizzard more actively involved the community in their projects - it sounds like a nightmare knowing the average forum visitor but full disclosure could be very beneficial. The community would be used to the development process and would get used to ideas not making it or not making it on time (same as people now are used to not knowing what will happen next)

Imagine the time that could be saved by not implemeting dumb ideas that nobody ever wanted or by doing things right the first time (The old honor system for instance). I think the Mod's are right by saying that the arm chair home developer doesnt quite appreciate what goes into game development and that many ideas are shortsighted and not workable...but I seriously doubt that the handful of developers couldnt benefit from active fully disclosed discussions with the community...yes, they may have to swallow their pride and accept ideas that they never thought of themselves (they do - but not often enough).

Honestly, given the apparent bugginess that seems largely related to 2.2's voice chat in particular, perhaps the voice chat needs to be removed from 2.2 and taken back into a closed development/QA environment for the time being and instead we can have a chance at seeing some new content, which is what people have really been clamoring for. It's an unpleasant option from the standpoint of delivering on a long-promised feature that has been heavily publicized in the gaming press but recent discussion amongst the WoW community and the PTR community in particular seems to have shown that it's going to be a while before it's ready for launch in any kind of satisfactory and somewhat bug-free state.

111 days since the last content patch is rather long. It would be polite to say to the customers something more akin to "The patch will be done when it's done, we are presently working on fixing (X major/minor issue) ." When folks don't even get a hint as to what the hold-up is (from an official source), it's rather frustrating to the customer base. There's certainly a reason that a lot of the customer base has become increasingly cynical (and childish too) regarding the addition of new content. It becomes pretty bad when that becomes somewhat justifiable rather than more baseless whining.

To top it all off, it would be nice to see what will be coming in 2.3 sooner rather than later. Heck, give us a nice preview of some of the new heroic badge rewards that were mentioned in weeks past.

Microsoft completely changed the way sound substructure works in Windows Vista, so now Blizzard has to make sure that the sound works for all the other supported Windows version in addition to Vista. Not only that, but they have to make sure it will work for Mac users too.

From what I understand, the voice system was having troubles with Vista and when they tried fixing the bugs, it broke the sound on other operating systems and they have since had to rewrite the sound coding in WoW to fix the problem that arose from a problem that arose from implementing a feature in to a game who has a forum base generally consisting of selfish, ungrateful children.

The while you may not like the voice system, some of us will because we haven't found the 9 million user capacity ventrilo server that everyone seems to be using for PuGs and what not. Having a system that will allow people in PuGs to at least try to communicate more efficiently will help the parties function even if it is only a slight help. Or if you are a selfish, ungrateful child, you will now have the opportunity to scream about your anatomy before you ditch the group.
