Q u o t e:
Druids have tried going big since Beta. Devs don't seem interested. For Druids, Swipe is far from a marginal ability, and removing the target requirement would be a very good functionality buff in a number of cases.
When I say marginal I mean in a AoE tanking environment with crappy mob pathing, having a frontal cone attack in this situation is marginal, they'll never make swipe 360, ask for a new ability, warriors are getting merged with dk's pallies with warriors, druids need to be more obnoxious on these forums and get some new abilities themselves, it might even take to the point where there aren't any feral tank druids really before they fix it, if all the feral tanks go boomkin or resto, or re-roll all together, i'm sure blizz has the numbers on this stuff and monitors when a class or spec just stops getting played.
It just doesn't seem like removing the targetting requirement on swipe will solve the problem, warriors and pallies are crying they are the worst tanks in the game cause they can't do Sarth+3 but it seems like Druids are the ones most in need of some new tanking abilities.

I would love to see it as like a cone of cold effect. I would also like it to proc infected wounds, but I unfortunately a no CD aoe hamstring would be kind of bad for pvp.

Despite the mechanical failure of Swipe, I think one of the biggest boosts it could use is a bleed component. I mean, if you've got this giant bear claw coming at you, it just hits you? It doesn't rip your skin open?
That's just farfetched.

Q u o t e: cleave.
Comparing it to cleave is totally inappropriate since 3.02. Swipe is the Druid version of AoE threat, so it is much more comparable to Consecrate, Thunderclap, Death and Decay, or the like. Bringing up Cleave is pre-WotLK thinking.

That's an interesting idea. It would be kinda like having an AoE Dot (like a DK or Pally), but the DoT is sticky with the targets hit.
Still, the primary purpose of this thread is to emphasize how the targeting requirement of Swipe needs to go. Other changes would be nice, but the targeting thing is absolutely ridiculous.

The real problem is Magetard #429786489 who thinks a bear getting in a single swipe is a license to PoM-Pyro...

Q u o t e: Would getting rid of lacerate ability altogether and combining it with swipe, while adding a little more range fix the problem?
Swipe has range in terms of the targets it can hit. It's similar to Consecrate, from what I can tell (but only frontal targets, so half the area). However, it requires that your current target is in melee range. I simply think they should remove any targeting requirement and just make it a pure aoe.

We are going to take another look at Swipe. Since we are trying to fix some problems where druids are too good at tanking it seems reasonable to also look at cases where they struggle.
Please don't follow this up a dozen threads that say "My class needs compensation for nerfs too!" We generally don't offer compensation for nerfs since they are supposed to be nerfs. But in this case we are trying to realize our goal of having 4 viable MT classes and druid AE threat generation is cumbersome.

Perfectly reasonable.
I am a BiS Prot Warrior and I have NO issue with giving them better AoE.
If they were OP by whatever amount before the nerfs it IS only reasonable to help them where they were underpowered.

Does it count as a thread necro when GC does it?
"SD works great against multiple mobs. It doesn't work as well as a shield does, but it works much better than armor did as long as you're not tanking 20 Teron Gorefiends. "
