Q u o t e:

Everyone is entitled to complain, and everyone else is entitled to refute said complaint. My original position, stated a number of times in this thread, is this: I feel that the achievement can easily be construed as insulting not simply because it invokes the whole "Playboy Bunny" thing, and obviously associates women with a stereotype that not everyone wants to associate themselve with, but because a female character (real-life gender doesn't matter) will be an unwilling participant in this. If you are a female (or male) playing a female character, and if these sort of associations DO bother you, you might not be happy that they are being forced upon you. Again, I'm not saying it bothers everyone. It clearly doesn't bother most guys, and clearly doesn't bother most girls. Even so, it bothered me from the moment I read it, however, and it clearly bothered some other people in the thread, like Nehala. I'm not that well-acquainted with the achievement system, but there are none, to my knowledge, that invoke this same sort of division. I can appreciate that the intent was probably to be funny or cute - but I think that in this case, it comes across as offensive. None of the charm would be lost if it were opened to both genders.

Line breaks? Makes it hard to really want to read what you say here.

Anyway, yes it can be taken offensively, but think about it. I'm pretty darn sure the Blizzard team has females. I sure that they would have said something if it would cause a massive issue. Like some has said, if you don't like the achievement, don't participate and take off the buff. Simple.

And personally, it would kill the humor or "charm" behind the achievement. Again, a male character with bunny ears, not so cute. Makes me think of most male bunny cartoon characters, they've usually been nasty and perverted, or just awkward and weird. Female bunny cartoons, cute, fluffy, and/or sexy.

I agree with the OP.

WoW is full of off-color jokes, but the female and over 18 requirement is seriously creepy and crosses a line, for me. This is just my experience and is no way meant to speak for the experiences of other women who play WoW, but I frequently feel targeted due to my gender when I play WoW. I have innocuous comments turned into sexual innuendo. I have received blatant come-ons by people who hear me speak in vent. I constantly question whether my "friends" are really friends of mine, because I have noticed a severe downturn in the number of male friends who will talk to me when a more flirtatious guildy is on the scene.

In short, I already feel targeted by my fellow players since I'm a chick, even though I'm not particularly flirtatious, outgoing, or nice. I am disappointed whenever WoW's developers feel the need to encourage this behavior.

Please change this achievement to be gender neutral, and remove the age -- I mean level! -- requirement.

That could be a reason why you're ignored over that "more flirtatious" girl... especially the nice part...

Another thing I'd like to mention is that you pay for this game for fun- if you are feeling like you're being harassed or treated unequally, you have every right to report or no longer play this game.

The fact is, too many people complain about things being unfair because you chose to continue to let them be unfair... if your guildies say stuff to you that you don't like, why don't you say something and if they don't listen, leave? You chose to be where you are and you chose to talk to those you talk to- there's even an ignore feature in the game.

Too many blame others for their own issues where you can remove yourself from the situation altogether and then complain. Not to mention, you can remain completely anonymous in this game but chose to put yourself out as a female playing- vent? Don't talk. You can listen and type as easily as you talk back.

Once again, I am a female IRL and I still see nothing wrong with this achievement. It's a pun that's supposed to be taken light heartedly. If you want to qq about singling out female toons, then so be it, but you should complain about the others that single out race/class combos too while you're at it cuz, hell, I frikkin wanted those rose petals showering me the entire Love is In the Air festival instead of that pewpy headed dranei... =]

It isn't like they're transforming the whole outfit (you know, the leotard and tail and everything?).

I am a female in rl. I love all the sexy looking cosmetic things they add to the game. Gotta Catch em' all? I'd totally support having the full costume. I'd sport it everywhere. Bunny ears w/a sexy and sleek suit? Cute, imo. ^^

This achievement is terrible, and I hope it gets changed as well. Too far over the creepy line there, Blizz.

Cry more. This is why males are obviously the superior gender. You wouldn't see us crying over "generalizing and being sexist towards our gender".

Edit: Well that's one way to shut down a thread.

You want to be offended by it? Fine. But I still don't see what's "creepy" about the level requirement.

44/57 reps done.

All I can say is Wow......
I know a lot of girls who play this game and all of them think it's cute and funny. My girlfriend doesn't play this game and she thinks it's funny.

Why is this offensive? I really don't get it. I understand it's sexist in the literal sense of the word, targetting only 1 sex, but why are you so offended by it? Why is it so creepy? I've seen tons of posts saying its weird and creepy and such but WHY.

A lot worse goes on in trade chat every minute, go get blizzard to fix that.

Dear Blizzard,

Please create an achievement called "Bachelorette Party" where the females can put little bowties and g-strings on the lvl. 18 male players etc. etc. so we can all live in a fair world and out from under the constant shadow of an army of pervs being created because they saw some hawt draenei in bunny ears.

Thanks,
Me

So... let's see. This is what I'm getting here:

- Well, the level 18 thing is to prevent !!%##%@!# jokes.
...so, this is alluding to sex. Okay.

- This is a knock on Playboy, which is a girly magazine.
...okay, so this is about alluding to the sexualization of women.

- There could be a riff on Playgirl as well, except there isn't.
...okay, so this is *really* about alluding to sexualization of women, because they could be sexualizing men as well... only they're NOT.

And yet somehow this adds up to not sexist. What?

Two further points:
Pumpkins on the head at Hallow's End did not target anyone by gender, and further, did not make allusions to "an adult magazine derived from the hardcore profession of prostitution." So pumpkins on the head at Hallow's End had NOTHING to do with gender, and NOTHING to do with sex.

Frankly, if there were two achievements, one for each gender, 80% of my issue with this whole thing would disappear in a puff of offended gender issues. I would still find it personally a little creepy, but I wouldn't be running around and shrieking "sexism" because then at least they'd be riffing on the objectification of males and females equally.
Where the hell did you get Playboy from?

My god, people will flip out over any stupid little thing.

Give me a break. This is as pointless and moronic as those idiots complaining over "Fat Princess" (google it, you'll understand shortly).

There is enough real sexism in the world that needs to addressed before worrying about virtual sexism (or, ya know, a humorous commentary on a geriatric magazine magnate who dates 3 girls who's total age added together comes to less than his).

If this is the worst thing feminism has to worry about, I'd say the fight for equality is basically won. If it isn't, aren't you gals wasting valuable time that could be actually spent fighting for real causes?

Or do you only put your feminism pants on when it doesn't require you to move away from the PC?

I'm surprised that there hasn't been a movement to say that dranei chicks give girls a self image they can't live up to, what with the horns/hooves and all... /rolls eyes

I sure am /disgusted. Not at the achievement, at the idiots who give a crap about a virtual game world more than the real one. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
