While this may disappoint some people, our stance is pretty consistent so it doesn't surprise anybody at this point (I hope), and it does avoid the pushing back of dates which tends to infuriate a good chunk of people.

Kinda like pushing back Tuesday maintenance time almost every week. I can tell you the majority of people would much rather hear a possible PTR release date than the current "stance"

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
well, when exactly do you mean?
see I've already waited too long
and all my hope is gone

I think it's safe to assume it's coming very soon, not sure they ever release (or would release) a ptr over the weekend, and given it's already Friday night for most of Europe we probably won't see anything on the ptr till next week the earliest =( but there's a first for everything I guess.

Blues, stop teasing us, we're excited ;_;

And if that release date gets pushed back it leads to nothing but problems, problems that are easily avoided.

Q u o t e:

We're going to be testing the patch anyway. Even if it's not completely polished, that's what we are for. Unless of course you don't listen to PTR bug feedback. ;P

Just release it, we'll do more than enough work to spot those zaney bugs and post them on the PTR forum.

Yeah, I know that testing/bug finding is an important aspect of PTRs, but if there is a crazy bug where mounting causes the realm to crash (this is completely made up just to prove a random point of nasty bugs) you won't get much done so it needs to be stable enough to support players first.

I remember when Blizzard used to give release dates for any upcoming games they used to work on...

They were off by a few years with Warcraft 3 I think... yea... that didn't make people happy.

That's why you say "release date could change at any time" and/or "this is just a estimated release"

If people get mad over that, it's their problem. Why would you guys care if they get mad over a projected release date of a PTR anyway?

Oh and what problems would it lead too?

I can admit that we have "ideas" on this, I mean, it doesn't come as a complete surprise to the company when the PTRs launch, right? It still falls under the category of "when it's ready" even if it is "soon" or "very soon" - so just hang tight for now, information will be out when they are up. :)

So how tight should hang?

Can I make a sandwich?
Maybe put a roast in the oven?
Cancel my weekend plans?
Take a trip to Europe?
Go on sabatical?

Just help me draw a line somewhere in there would you? Impatient minds want to know!

The only requirement to post here is knowing your birthday.

It leads to people getting mad which is a problem. Providing disclaimers tends to not help much as all it takes is 2-3 push backs and we become liars and whatnot. We care much about this as we don't want to infuriate the community (infuriate is a strong word, but it could easily happen), and while I would love to say "it's your problem" and walk off into the sunset, it becomes all our problems as the people who are fine with it suddenly are sifting through a wad of threads of angry people at the situation, we have to focus on moderating these accordingly and then can't focus much on positive community discussions. Yes, a pile of angry people on a release date doesn't help anybody so we would rather not provide anything until we have something definite.

If the PTR isn't open this weekend could we have the current Patch Notes? after years and years I doubt many people expect them to be fully accurate or to include all the changes, but it will give us something to discuss in the interim =/

I would say I completely understand your stance but you have to understand, we are EXTREMELY excited about this. At least I am. And I really want to test this patch out as soon as possible. So, if anything, cay you tell us if we're thinking days here until we get it or weeks. Because right now I'm thinking days and so are most other people and it's making us very anxious. We don't need a date, just give us something to calm our anxious twitch. :D

I do have to agree with this. Patch notes, even if they mildly fluctuatate, could be extremely nice right now. :)

While I don't have anything I can give, it is planned to be soon, hang tight with us just a little while longer and we'll be there.

Bornakk, is this an official admission that "very soon" is now added to the Blizzard clock with "When it's ready" and "soon"?

If so, how does this new, mysterious time differ from the others?
