Q u o t e:
What about them? It was specificly stated by ghostcrawler that dual specing isnt for new player as it further complicates an potentialy already complicated talent system. Thats the whole purpose of the hefty price tag, to not overcomplicate things for a new player and still make it accesable to alts.

As far as inter server alts, I agree. An easy solution to that would be inter server mail? *gasp*

Why they didnt have this at launch I have no idea. Every other mmo in existance has it

One of the ideas behind pre-80 dual specs is to give players a chance to learn healing and tanking roles (that aren't really used much in solo content) without compromising solo ability. New players may need that experience more than a long-time player with several alts, but if dual specs are both expected by groups and too expensive, they may not get the benefit of it (or worse, think that they need to pursue illicit methods of obtaining gold in order to keep up).

I like dual specs as much as anyone, I know my level 80 will benefit, and 1000g isn't bad at all for a max-level character.... but it seems like we got the level 80 pricing at level 40.

No matter what they do and how much they change things it's never enough is it?

Apparently not, again I blame the console game folks. They want instant gratification.

From what I gather you only need the lexicon to set your spec's after that your free to swap specs (that you have set) willy nilly

You set your specs just as you do now, except twice. No lexicon needed on the ptr (

Right, but you know that priest can heal JUST FINE as shadow/dps spec in pretty much any normal instance at least.

while that is true, the priest in the shadow/dps spec refuses to heal.

There isnt a single dungeon pre-heroic 80s that cant be healed or tanked by an offspec of the appropriate level range. Saying you need to respec to do something like SM just means you're bad.

There isn't a single instance in the game that isn't easier and more fun to heal or tank with the appropriate spec. Saying you don't want the ability to be specced for your role just means you're masochistic.

...do you honestly believe that a dual spec will change this?

I heal heroics in offspec. Its the only way to make them remotely challenging or interesting. Maybe I am a masochist, maybe I'm good at pressing buttons to keep tanks alive.

And concerning the out of combat cast:

Does that there won't be a summonable lexicon of power, and if so, what's the cooldown on the "five second cast"?

Summonable lexicon is a maybe at this point, not really sure what you would need it for but we'll see how it goes.

No cooldown on the 5 second cast currently on the PTR, but it does drain things like mana, rage, etc.

Q u o t e:
"Dual specialization isn't something everyone needs. It's a perk we're adding into the game, and it's initially going to require an investment. If you can't afford dual specializations for 10 different characters, you might not actually need all 10 of your characters to be able to swap between two specializations on a whim.

With a single 5-second, out of combat cast, players level 40 or higher will instantly be able to swap between two different talent specializations, glyph sets, and action bar set-ups from virtually anywhere in the world.

That kind of convenience and versatility shouldn't be obtained with absolute triviality."

Posted by a blue in another thread.

Is that a typo or did it actually get lowered to 40?????

The ability to change specs mid runs is so helpful for raids. Some fights you need 2 tanks, others you need 1 or 3. Some fights need 4 healers and others need more or less. This will give a chance for raids to be more optimal and not change people out or dead raid spots.

On the plus side, it's possible that some guilds might even consider funding part or all of the dual spec cost to get people to do this for raids.

THERE IS A GOD.

Or maybe there isn't.

But the chance of being able to use this feature for leveling alts...oh, it will be worth the price, indeed.

IMO, the mechanics of this ability make it so it shouldn't be OP, therefore it shouldn't need a reagent... Now if for whatever reason that swapping several times in a row causes issues, then I could see a cooldown...

I think the Lexicon of Power that is summonable would make this no different then how it is now with the exception of paying 1000g for lifetime respecs and possibly having to pay an Inscriptionist to summon a Lexicon of Power...

Again IMO, no reagent, but I'm okay with a cooldown...

(This is me voicing my opinion on a suggestion, not an actual suggestion, so no need to point me to the Suggestion Forum) :)

Also, I believe Level 40+ is a good way to go... Players can DPS while questing and leveling while in instances they can be Healers or Tanks... This allows them the ability to learn their "instance spec" while leveling up... same goes for the PvPers...

Good point, not sure how a bran new 40 is going to come up with 1k gold. Even as it is 1k gold isnt exatcly chump change for an 80 considering every other gold sink there is. Right now it just sounds like a plan for people with low level alts

Having dool specs is somewhat complicated so a brand new player suddenly jumping into it could be a bit overwhelmed. When you are first learning how to use your difference specs they tend to be quite cheap and easy to jump between for a small amount of gold and (at least in my experience), players leveling up (and especially brand new players) aren't jumping between specs constantly. Veteran players are much more likely to do this and so the option is there for them at a fairly early level.
