0. Survival Hunter 3.1 Notes vs PTR 02/24/2009 08:36:28 AM PST
Now I know things change, however, I'm just curious as to whether the two mentioned things not even be in to test:
New Talent: Trap Launcher: When activated, your next Trap will be launched instantly at the enemy target. 1 minute cooldown.
T.N.T. re-designed: Increases the damage done by your Explosive Shot, Explosive Trap and Immolation Trap by 2/4/6%, and gives your Explosive Shot a 33/66/100% chance to refresh the duration of your Immolation Trap effect on the target.
I was really excited when I read those two, it sounded like finally a way of bringing traps back into the raiding game.
But then I see what the talent trees currently are on the ptr, and TnT doesn't have the immo refresh, and Trap Launcher has been replaced with Black Arrow(don't get me wrong, Black Arrow looks cool, but I'd still like to see Trap Launcher in some form so we can faesibly use traps without needing to run up to the target).
(Here is black arrow)
Black Arrow (Tier 9) - Fires a Black Arrow at the target, increasing all damage done by you to the target by 6% and dealing [ 10% of RAP + 785 ] Shadow damage over 15 sec. Costs 6% base mana. 5-35 yard range. Instant Cast. 30 sec cooldown.
Also...
Lock and Load re-designed: You now have a 33/66/100% chance when you trap a target with Freezing Trap, Freezing Arrow or Frost Trap and a 2/4/6% chance when you deal periodic damage with your Immolation Trap or Black Arrow to cause your next 2 Arcane Shot or Explosive Shot spells to trigger no cooldown, cost no mana and consume no ammo. This now has a new spell effect and sound.
vs
Lock and Load (Tier 4) now has a 33/66/100% chance to proc off Freezing Shot, Freezing Trap, and Frost Trap, and a 3/7/10% chance to proc off the periodic damage of Immolation Trap and Black Arrow. (Previously worked on all traps and included serpent sting)
Now, I understand the change to periodic damage off immo in stead of triggering, but why the removal of explosive trap COMPLETELY from the talent, and why the removal of serpent sting? Are survival hunters supposed to be using black arrow in place of serpent sting? And if Black Arrow has a 30 second cooldown, that means we're gonna be starved on lnl procs during the 15 seconds its not available.
Overall the changes look like a positive direction, but I think a little clarification on which we should be expecting - the notes or the ptr trees - to be more likely to end up having would be really nice? :)

Trap launcher is an ability, not a talent. Trap mast was moved to tier2 and Blackarrow is our new 41 point talent. some of the patch notes may not be in the ptr yet.

Q u o t e: Don't forget black arrow shares CD with traps which kills it for most PvP applications.
That I did not know... that just makes it even more horrible... so the talent tree built around traps gets a 41 pt talent that negates all of its earlier trap based talents.
Wow...
Q u o t e: jesus christ hunters don't have any right to QQ.
I guess you didn't even read the post.
The last line clearly states that I feel this is a positive direction, just that I want clarification on what is happening.
Thank you for your illiteracy, and the bump, but it wasn't really necessary.

Ewwww. That kinda sucks. So you can either use the black arrow dot... or throw a trap? So forgive my hunter ignorance, but i take it you can use Black Arrow when throw trap is on cool down for pve?

I personally think that Black Arrow isn't going to make it off the PTR. Or at least not in the survival tree. It has no logical place in the survival tree, and is more or less an overpowered Serpent Sting + Noxious Stings. An ability of this magnitude would also be really OP for a tree that already has plenty of DPS tools. I would think Black Arrow would be much better suited for MM or even BM if they renamed it.
Trap Launcher seems to be a pretty powerful ability aligned with the survival tree. If I had to make a guess, I'd say by the end of the PTR that Black Arrow will be gone and Trap Launcher will take its place in the talent tree.
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a freezing arrow.

Thats sorta what I expect, which is a large part of the reason for this thread.
With it sharing the cooldown of traps, it'd make sense in mm most I think, removing traps from raiding there, and then trap launcher into surv and bringing the immo refresh back to tnt...
But, we just don't know, and I really think its important info for us to have.
Edit: To thep erson above me, yes it means that frost trap will be absolutely useless on virtualyl all bosses, and lnl will be restricted exclusively to the black arrow/immo trap procs.

When I was reading the notes I saw Black Arrow and it's supposed triggering of trap cooldowns as a way to independently modify PVE boss damage versus PVP burst. Maybe not, I dunno.

I think Black Arrow will go away as well. It's weird, and other than force synergy, doesn't fit in. Lasts 15 sec with a 30 sec cooldown?

The other nice thing about Black Arrow is that I might actually eventually run out of mana on 25man boss fights as SV. That'd be a nice change of pace, having to switch over to viper.

Ugh is that all Black Arrow does? Considering its name I figured it would be cool... a dot that increases your dmg by 6%? Lame.... Cmon Blizzard make it more fun. =[
I don't think spawning skeletons on targets that die with black arrow make much sense...
Could change it to oil slick? Drunken Haze effect? Snare? Chance to Miss? Will cause Explosive Shots/Immolation Traps do aoe dmg an increase dmg of these on that single target by 20% or something?
