Q u o t e:

Yes, the feature is available to level 40 or higher characters. I believe this change is live on the PTR now, but am not sure off-hand what build the change was made in, and whether or not that is the build that's live.

I have tested on a level 80 character though on the PTR to confirm that the lexicon is not needed and the swap can be done from anywhere.

Dear, Zarhym...

If the level requirement is now 40...yet it still costs 1k , how is the player who has only one character at 40 on a server going to raise sufficient funds for it when in particular if the server is non-transferrable new?

The current form as I understand it makes perfect sense if you have alts at 80. This can be easily a afforded with a couple of days or so of straight Dailies. But makes no sense under the above scenerio I laid out...particular if there's a shortage of tanks and healers on that given server. Is there a way then that it could be made scalable (such as the Barbershop feature) based on the hightest level character you roll on that server?

(Bolded for emphasis.)

We want our AP/POM back...

...and no, I don't need credentails to say that.

I also want to reiterate another point.

There are already many huge obstacles for new players to start playing and feel like they're able to enjoy the game.

I recruited a friend and we managed to get to level 61 I think before his 3 month game card ran out. Part of the reason he stopped was he felt like the end game content was still too inaccessible from him starting out with one character. He felt like all the gold sinks just drained the fun out of the game.

Adding another that disproportionately impacts new players over veteran players is a bad idea.

Charging 1000 gold for dual specs serves no real purpose that I can see. Why discourage people from using this feature?

if you compare to epic riding, there's a big difference. Epic riding impacts all classes pretty much equally. Dual Spec's will not. Epic riding is a "convenience", I agree. Dual Specs is not. It does NOT affect all classes equally. It will be either near mandatory for some classes (healing classes, I'm looking at you) or mostly worthless for pure dps classes that mainly pve ( 1k gold to top the trash meters? I don't think so). For tanks (warriors / DKs) it might count as a convenience.

Q u o t e:

Keep in mind the fight would have to be taking place outside of an arena or battleground for this to be possible; and even then, the druid would have to get out of combat long enough to perform the 5 second cast.

Edit: Beaten by the Danger Cow.

Zarhym how will cooldowns work with the new feature? Will i be able to blow all cooldowns of all specs (if i am a mutilate rogue and i want to get my cooldowns ready i switch to a prep spec and reset my CD) than switch back

if its not a convenience then what is it? Cause it sure as hell isn't needed. We have managed to go over 3 years of playing without "needing" it. I would love to hear exactly what it is if not a convenience.

People post on alts cause they are to afraid of what complete strangers on the internet might think of their imaginary character in a video game.

NOICE - pretty much bang on what I was hoping for. Obviously at a fixed fee of 1k, the only lvl 40s who will be taking advantage of this option will be alts but lowering the level minimum is the main thing - plenty of primarily-solo players likely will shoot the cash over from their level 80 and then switch to the alt for a nice change of pace - will be nice having an alternative to getting twink gear or (blech) pre-BC quest greens with +2 sta/+8 spi and other useless stats.

That's a week PER TOON of extra farming... not to mention if I was to save already for epic flyers for all toons... and say I have 10 toons... that's TEN WEEKS of WORK for something that should be FUN.

maybe you don't need dual specs for all 10 of your toons?

/gasp!

it can only be used out of combat, and cant be used in arena or BG's. Which means in a boss fight you cant switch specs and you can drop combat in pvp to switch.

The cooldowns will remain and continue counting down, even if you flip specializations back and forth.

Welcome to the forums. I love you.

Q u o t e:

Why on earth would a lvl 40 need dual spec anyway??
If it's your first char you should level it one spec and keep your gold for mounts etc. Worry about dual spec end game.

It only makes sense that you can use your lvl 80 gold on alts to dual spec (if you really care to) cuz they are ALTS. At which this point if you want to burn 1k on them why not.

The change is good. Stop crying.

Well...if your tune happens to be hybrid, and there's a shortage of healers from 40 to 80, this feature will likely prove very useful to many. Not to mention...one can learn how to heal or tank as they are levelling without sacrificing their ability to quest level (ie. solo).

Those seem to be two reasonable arguements to me.

1 minute cast time imo. Remove any possibility for exploits. Any time you have a minute to spare is a time where being able to change your spec in that time period probably won't matter.

Sure, I love the change, but whose bright idea was it that changing specs should have half the cast time of making a portal to someplace, teleporting and hearthing. This is going to get nerfed and nerfed hard once some exploit comes up, lets make sure the lexicon of power requirement stays out and lets make sure the ability to use it anywhere in the world stays in forever by nipping any of these little exploits right now. Seriously.

You're right, I wasn't clear.

Dual specs will not be an "equal" convenience for all classes.
It's also not an equal barrier for veterans versus new players.

If it was 50% of your total gold across all characters, that'd be fine with me and it would treat veterans versus new players equally.

I'd personally LOVE to seem some of these people who say 1K gold is no big deal react if it was 50% of all your gold on a realm.
You accumulated 50,000 gold. Yay for you. Is Dual Spec worth 25,000 gold now?
My friend who just started has accumulated 2,000 gold after months of grinding to get his epic riding. He thinks 50% of all gold is a fine price.

Q u o t e:

Dual specialization isn't something everyone needs. It's a perk we're adding into the game, and it's initially going to require an investment. If you can't afford dual specializations for 10 different characters, you might not actually need all 10 of your characters to be able to swap between two specializations on a whim.

With a single 5-second, out of combat cast, players level 40 or higher will instantly be able to swap between two different talent specializations, glyph sets, and action bar set-ups from virtually anywhere in the world.

That kind of convenience and versatility shouldn't be obtained with absolute triviality.

So make it available as an achievement reward. Or a quest chain. Or make it able to be purchased with honor points.

The last thing the game needs is yet another gold grind, especially for an option that largely has its benefits for switching between PvP and PvE.

I'm annoyed that it costs what it does to do it, whether it's attainable or not. Give some options on obtaining it instead or just adding another gold grind to the game.

No offense, but you're terrible at making money if it take a week to make 1000g.

Hmm pay 1000g and have relative freedom between two specs or stay one spec because paying all the time is tedious.

You have to be a serious suck ass to cry over a measly 1000g for this kind of option.
