Love the new system! I may actually step into arena for the first time ever now. Knowing that with a little bit of time that I'll actually be able to find a level playing field where I can work to improve makes me finally excited about arena.

Why are they continuing with the honor farming part of getting bracers/boots/belt/cape. It's incredbily boring, buff points gained and give us an option to buy that out.

A conversion of arena points to honor points would be nice for you guys. Something like they're doing now with letting you trade Valor emblems for Heroism ones. Let the higher "value" points be exchanged for lower ones.

I have been farming 25man KT for 6 weeks and not a single sinister revenge. I don't enjoy PVE. Why are weapons obtainable thru PVP inferior to PVE weapons?

Q u o t e:

Exactly, I CANNOT BELIEVE they're not even putting in a hateful weapon set. If you're only a pvper you have to fight people with Ulduar weapons which will probably be 240-250 dps with a F'N 186 dps titansteel destroyer!?!?

Absolutely. I do not understand the decision to force PvPers to PvE in order to compete in PvP. This decision simply aggravates PvPers to the point of cancelling their accounts.

It is the same as forcing PvEers to do Arenas to get gear without any way to advance their character through PvE. It is one of the most illogical decision introduced in WotLK.

If PvPers don't want to PvE, don't impose a system on them in hopes of "introducing" them to PvE. PvPers would most likely quit than to spend hours in a dungeon.

In the past few months, I have already spent enough time in dungeons to last me 10 years. If there is no way for me to get a competitive weapon through PvP in Season 6, and my character stagnates, there would be no reason for me to continue playing.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but can PVPers have access to the same quality weapons as PVErs?

WTB 171dps daggers from PVPing please.

I don't even have TIME to raid anything consistently. It's just ridiculous not to offer pvp'ers a weapon that's useful for pvp.

Can you PLEASE find a way to make weapons that are desirable for PvP ONLY? Like dmg stats that only are active against other players (+15% dmg vs players)?

It wouldn't be such a big deal if weapons weren't THE BIGGEST upgrade for just about any toon, but it especially hurts physical DPS classes. If your weapons suck, you just have no chance. The ratings won't be a reflection of skill -- a big chunk will be a reflection of whether you got your Naxx drop.

Great info, thanks for your time Kalgan.

You say many of these changes will come with season 6. Is season 6 on the schedule for 3.1 with Uldar?
Any idea yet on how arena point carry over will work? Should people who can't buy anything atm save up points to buy next season? will ratings for this season change before 3.1?

And thanks again for the info.

Why is the new thinking that you have to do PvE for PvP weapons. Isnt this completely against everything s1-s4 was trying to get away from? Relying on RNG to increase your viability in PvP is VERY bad. There are lots of people with terrible luck on drops.

What gives?

- you might note that the Furious weapon is still at a high requirement, 2k, the thinking being that most players are encouraged to get their weapon upgrade through pve, although hardcore arena competitors have an outlet to get an equivalent weapon through arenas (if you're hardcore enough for 2k, you can forego raiding for a weapon)

I don't know if this is mentioned anywhere in your posts, but what is happening to the deadly weapons?

Yeah, this kind of saddened me when I read kalgan's post. I was able to get my rogue to 2k in season 3, and I know if I would have had warglaives like every other rogue out there... I could have probably pushed much much higher.

Some good changes. However I still do not like the idea of having to "PVE" for weapons. There should be a hateful weapon available. I think low rated arena players need all the resilience they can get to help against the higher rated pve bursty geared players.

This was immensely helpful and illustrative--graphing the series in Excel, in particular, it made even more sense.

I should note, however, that it does not tell the whole story. There is a massive MMR increase that is not accounted for. Examine the match that starts on 2/5/2009 at 23:32. This match's MMR is a full 118 points above where the result of the previous match should have left it. From the time gap between the previous match and this match, that some results were left out? All other discrepancies are less than 1 point, which I assume are attributable to rounding errors.

For all you bads, take a deep breath, try to read his posts (those are the ones with blue text!), use all of your brain trying to comprehend it, realize yes you are in fact 1200 material and just stfu. Don't like being 1200? Improve your play and win 70%, not that hard to understand.

I don't know if this question warrants a response, Kalgan, but I am quite curious. Is this system biased towards making you seem worse than you are or better than you are?

If, theoretically, you were sitting at 1500 and only 2 other teams were queueing, one with a much lower TR/MMR (say 1000) and one with a much higher TR/MMR (say 2000). How would this system rank you if you were to play 20 games, losing 10 to the 1000 TR/MMR, and winning 10 to the 2000 TR/MMR?Assume these teams play other teams while they are playing you, so they maintain their 1000/2000 TR/MMR everytime they play you. Would your rating go down a lot, move up a lot, stay relatively the same? Is it possible to simulate this?

I would hope that the team should stay around where it was when it started, giving no bias in either direction. If it did have bias, the system would imply something like:

- Losing games to a lower rated team
carries more weight than
- Winning games against a higher rated team

or vice versa. Do either of these situations apply, or is the system fair in terms of bias?

Q u o t e:
Kalgan,

I think the reason the masses are still confused about the system is because they still have the mindset that 1500 is the average, or 50/50.

The problem can probably be solved if everyone's Arena rating was zeroed, and a new range of arena rating numbers are used.

I am quite interested in the mathematics involved with WoW. If there are any openings at Blizzard in the design of such systems, be it new designs or revamping old mathematical models, please send me an email. I have a computer engineering degree and have a lot of experience in using mathematics and logic to solve complex problems.

Well, 1500 is still average in the new system in terms of "half the teams are more successful than one at 1500, and half the teams are less successful". 1500 has never been defined as winning half your games, even under the old system.

Are there any plans to make the "hidden" rating no longer hidden? Part of the frustration is not having a clear view into why we are being matched against the people we are, and there is no reason to keep this information from the player.

Look how much easier it was for us to understand why shadow was losing team rating the way he was when his and his opponents "hidden" rankings were revealed.

I agree, having the MMR hidden makes it all the more frustrating. Consistently losing many points to teams who publicly have the same rating I do is just annoying. I'd LOVE to see the MMR in addition to our current team rating so I can understand what level to really expect from my opponents.

Q u o t e:

- the new Archavon boss (a new boss located in another wing of the Vault of Archavon), will have slightly different drops than the current Archavon (he can drop Furious Gloves/Legs, or any possible random honor item in addition to tier 8 pve set items similar to Archavon's t7 pve set drops, but cannot drop the Furious Chest piece)

ANOTHER Archavon!?! FFS, why?! It was the worst idea you've ever come out with - rediculously good loot (but annoyingly random loot) from an easy boss that circumvents the traditional way of getting these items. Please, PLEASE do not put another Archavon in the game...
