Is it intentional that you can for example grind the Oracles to exalted and then switch to Frenzyheart, but your 40 exalteds will actually drop down to match what you currently have and not what you have had?

Yes you need 40 at one time once to get it. Once you have 40 you can drop whatever rep you want.

Seems kind of dumb especially when many of them have achievements for doing one of them, or both. And other achievements require you to actively switch factions.

by "many" you mean 1 achievement covering 1 group of 2 factions, and 1 feat of strength covering 1 other group of 2 factions.

No, by many I mean all of those ones under reputation that say hey, you hit exalted with X. Even if most of them do not have the ability to become unexalted, they are able to be listed, so the information for the 40 should be able to be read.

doesn't change anything. the only rep that you can max exalted with, then later remove, and have any reason to remove, and has its own individual achievement, is sholozar. stop making broad vague generalizations that aren't true.

Aldor/Scryer doesn't have that achievement and FoS?

Ultimately it boils down to the achievement being:

- You have X amount of simultaneous exalted reputations.

Rather than:

- You reached exalted in X different unique reputations, regardless of your current standings.

If you un-exalted-ify yourself in anything, the counter drops down. (Of course, due to the achievement UI's usual foibles in updating, it may not *immediately* report the new lowered counter, but it'll eventually get around to it.)

You still keep any achievements you've gotten from it, even if you drop an exalted right after (for example) getting the 30-exalted achievement. You're just now 29/35 on the 35-exalted one. There's no way to lose achievements, so the 30-exalted is still yours despite no longer technically "qualifying" for it.

That's how it works. Only confusion that ever results from this is from a. the UI goofing up on its updating and b. people making groundless assumptions that it works differently without having read up on it in advance.

As for how it *should* work, well, feel free to make any arguments you like. Best arguments are concise, objective, and logical. Suggestions forum is that way. ---->

The text descriptions of these should be changed to match the way it actually works. It currently says "Raise XX factions to Exalted." It does NOT say anything about "simultaneously" or that you have to keep them all to earn the achievement.

Aldor/Scryer and Oracle/Frenzyheart should all 4 count if you earn exalted and then switch.

If a change were to be put in place, would it be retroactive? For example, I have Aldor and Scyrer tabards in my bank.

And to those saying that having 40 exalted reps at a time doesn't change anything, it does. Had I known that it was 40 exalted reps simultaneously, I wouldn't have ground out Bloodsail rep, shredding my chances of getting the four goblin factions to exalted.

Due to the existance of http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=12869, it's possible for an alliance character to become exalted with The Frostborn at some point in the future. The horde equivalent, The Taunka, has no daily quest.

The Tranquillian cancels out Wintersabers and it's easier to rep up with them, although the rewards aren't quite the same, but that's a whole other argument =p

I don't count Wintersaber, because they added tranquillian to offset that one.

However, in WotLK, there are two meta-reputations... Horde Expedition and Alliance Vanguard.

Within the Horde Expedition, it is only possible to raise one reputation to exalted (Warsong Offensive). Within the Alliance Vanguard, it is possible to raise three reputations to exalted (Explorer's League, Frostborn, and Valiance Expedition. It's not easy but it is possible, which gives the Alliance two extras.

Except people don't appear to be getting credit towards the 40 reputations achievement by having these sub-factions maximized.

Oh, I haven't heard that. The only thing I've heard is that people aren't getting credit for having the meta-reputation (Alliance Vanguard) at exalted. Are there really people who are already at exalted with the Frostborn or Explorer's League, to prove this? That would be some serious dedication since each rep only has a single daily to accomplish.
