I’ve been out of the healing scene since vanilla.

Here are a few simple questions for you healers regarding healing/debuf removal mods:

a) If you use such a mod ... can you still enjoy/say you have skill (not meant to be mean)?
b) If you don’t use a mod ... can you still play/compete in H/10/25 content?
c) Wasn’t Blizzard supposed to break those and adjust content in consequence with WotLK?

Thank you for your help.

You could exist quite easily without healing mods. I've done it before in a pinch.

But why would you? In high end raiding where a single missed dispel/abolish or miss on healing can wipe the raid, better to be safe than sorry.

They broke the reactive ones. The ones that could select spells depending on the situation. You gotta select your own spells now.

Also, This topic is done to death. If you like a mod, use it. If you don't, don't. Nobody cares about your leet skillz, they just want to stay alive. If you keep them alive, you get invited back.

a) yes
b) yes
c) no

Healing mods are about efficiency. Why gimp yourself and your raid just to prove a point?

I use a mod to help tell me who is in range of heals. Guessing who is in range used to be so frustrating, and most of the encounter was me wasting time with messages like, "Out of Range."

I also use a mod to help me keep track of which HoT is on which target. Personally, I am a forgetful person for the most part, so it helps.

Both of those things are available in Perfect Raid, which I currently use.

Note: I just heard yesterday that Blizzard's interface can be set up to see who is in range of heals, but I have not investigated that yet.

I used to use Healbot.
Then used Grid.
Now I only use Clique. Other then making a macro for accessing the normal right click for menu items on a target, Clique is best.
On normal party I just juse Clique to click on icons and do my thing.
My set up in a 10 or 25 man raid I have all WoW Icons moved to right side next to all heals on right action bar. This way all mouse movement is only 1 to 2 inches.
Left mouse = Holy Shock
Shift Left mouse = Cleanse
Ctrl Left mouse = Sacred Shield
Middle Mouse = Flash of Light
Shift Middle Mouse = Cleanse
Ctrl Middle Mouse = Lay on Hands
Right mouse = Holy Light
Shift Right mouse = Cleanse
Ctrl Right mouse = BOOM (Macro that uses Divine Favor/Holy Shock/Flash of Light)

Only time I need to use Grid is when I 40 man Raid.

you should be able to heal with out mods first, then add the mods. I use x-perl as my "healing mod" if you set it up well, it works well.

Sure, if all you ever had to do was heal the tank. But that isn't what most healing is like nowadays.

There is no way in hell you would be able to heal anything remotely difficult without mods nowadays.

I use grid/clique. I mainly just use grid and selecting targets and button healing since I have a lot of spells to put on just one little mouse, even with two side buttons. But when it comes to getting those decurses out for Noth, Clique is amazing. I just do my little combo while hovering over the "icons" on grid and spam the button and move my mouse until they are all gone. It is much less headache than click/spam/click/spam.

WoW UI is ugly. I would rather get the exact same information and look at a pretty screen. It's still up to me to take in and analyze the information (which is all available via default UI), react and make the right choices.

Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I didn't see any options for tracking HoTs on players that you don't have targeted. I rely on mouseover macros, and can't imagine having to click on each player to see how much time is remaining on their rejuvenation if needed.

So yes, I'd imagine healing an instance where you never had to deal with aoe damage would be simple without mods. But for a HoT class dealing with raid damage and rolling lifeblooms, healing without addons would be hellish.

healing mods dont do your job for you. They just help inform you and give you the easiest way to select someone and heal them. You still make the choices and cast the spells. Its not like decursive way back in the day.

I have healed with and without mods.

Some players just like mods. Messing around with them and reconfiguring their UI is part of the game for them. That's cool and why we promote it.

However, I also think there is a group of players (healers even) who would be content to use the default UI if they could make it work. Identifying areas where the default party and raid UI fall down can help us to improve it.

For example, we are unlikely to ever fully support Clique-style one click healing. We just don't think it's necessary to play the game and it's more of a user preference -- perfect for a mod.

However, I do find it annoying that our raid UI can show you buffs or debuffs but not both at the same time. This can be a real pain for say a priest or druid that has both hots and dispellable debuffs and long-term buffs to manage.

A useful question to ask is: What would the default WoW UI need to do to convince you not to install a mod? ("Nothing" is a perfectly acceptable answer -- as I said, some people just like mods.)
