As a long time Gladiator Shaman and an arena junkie who is obviously disgusted by the current state of PvP healing, I had hope until I read this comment. This shows such a disconnect between the developers and those who PvP anything other then casually bad, its sickening. Having arena compared to a "chess match" should be a HUGE compliment, not a reason to turn it into Price is Right Plinko. Many of us need to know if this comment was a mistake, or if it truly shows the direction of PvP for good. If the latter is true, I want to quit before wasting anymore time hoping.

Q u o t e:

For many of us, the hard part there is that WoW does have its unique strengths. Non-MMORPG games like FPS don't have the same kind of immersion in another world full of people to repeatedly interact with in utterly varied manners.

Each other MMORPG on the market today seems to have its own major issues from my perspective. As one example, WAR at least superficially appears so far to lack the same level of item choices and general game complexity outside of the PvP part, though I am considering it regardless.

I know most players don't appreciate this, from the countless resilience-uber-all suggestions, but the overlap between PvE and PvP in WoW leads to interesting possibilities for a math geek like me. Even though Blizzard unfortunately increasingly tries to have mindlessly choosing a single gear set be best in PvP, so many choices still exist for trinkets, gear, glyphs, enchants, talent builds, and more.

There even appears to be one interesting combination other people haven't done which could be more powerful than the devs noticed and help me reach high ratings once I obtain some hard-to-get items.

In general, complexity is a good thing in PvP to help keep playing a game from getting old.

For instance, in one of the few cases in which terrain can be used much outside of simple LoS methods alone, it's awesome on AV defense when I can get up on the hills and rain down heals and spellfire upon people below. Most of the enemies rarely even realize to zoom their cameras fully out or look up from fixation on ground targets. That's more fun than just running up to someone who wins in a few whacks since his class's DPS is superior in a simple straightforward fight.

Ideally, I'd pull off a fun healing-while-hiding-underwater tactic in AB, but it's too rare for people to be fighting for long in just the right spot, alas.

Even in arena, it's better to have longer fights, not just DPS-button-mashing zergs.

Sorry to say it, War Hammer for pvp. I played it and the pvp rocked, they understand the idea of class differences and rock paper scissors.. However I am more of a pve person.

Honestly, I want to see you go to that horrible, unfinished, and unpolished game. Have fun with their broken system, ugly designs, and horrible management. Don't think im saying this because im a WoW fanboy or anything. No, the reason why im saying this is because I played warhammer since closed beta and I, along with many others, hoped for a long time that warhammer was going to be everything it promised to be, that i would continue to get better. It wasn't and it didn't. Questing gets boring. (Thats okay you can grind scenarios). Scenarios get boring. (Thats okay you can assault keeps) Assaulting keeps gets boring. (Thats okay you can do instances and raids) WAR PVE gets boring....quick. (Thats okay you can...er.....reroll?) There are many more problems to that game.

Also, they do have a rock paper scissor system, but that doesn't mean it actually works well. But hey if you want to play that joke of a game, then be my guess.

Finally, I just want to say that the professionalism you see in Blizzard is FAR superior to Mythic; some people may not really notice or care for such a quality but it really starts to put in hindsight why Blizzard is on top.

blizz on top cuz MMO like Dark age of conan and EQ was their only competition so far.

I ain't playing war but im a big fan of the tabletop game and all i can say is let them have their chance. They are still starting, after 4 years blizzard still have huge problem too. For a beginner in the MMO they ain't doing bad.

Back to grinding honor while getting my ass handed over by some DPS -.-

I don't care for pvp, and while your idea sounds good, I really only commented because the above poster's complete lack of mmo-history knowledge disgusted me.

Errm...no, it really is.

Bad post-launches: AoC is a shining example. It failed at launch and thus it just plain failed. Matrix Online, Auto Assault...all failed at launch.

Now lets look at good betas/post launch: City of Heroes (still alive), EQ2 (still alive...I think?)

...and of course, world of warcraft. True, the first few days didn't really exist because of the amount of people trying to get on, but the game itself was very polished, didn't have too many bugs etc.

Those that do well at launch, tend to do well in the long run...whereas those with bad launches...well, they simply aren't around today.

Anyone who says WAR for PvP has not made it past level 20.

It's likely the game would devolve into silencing or CC'ing the healer

The healers of WAR pvp could actually survive. There wasn't this bull*!@! about getting *#!%d in 2 hits and not being able to at least react.

Despite being allowed a calculator for a test, it is considered cheating to take advantage of all of its functions.

I was in beta, I pointed out a few times on the beta forums how DPS seemed pretty insane for certain classes and it might make PvP uncomfortable for cloth classes and/or healers. A lot of people told me to shut up, it would all balance out before release or shortly after.

Do you have the time to listen to me whine about nothing and everything all at once?

This. I've lost faith in seeing much change at all. This is not the first time I've heard of this sort of thing.

Well...at least this isn't the tank forums...I don't see a blue post there most of the time at all. At least there is some response here, even if the responses tend to either not contain much information or contain a ban threat. ;)

Well, you could call the current state of PvP "chess" but some of us are playing with all pawns while other classes get the tactical nukes.

I cannot believe how screwed up pvp is right now. How the hell did they not see this coming? Give every class equal dps, scale that dps through the roof while nerfing healing, and ignore the fact that certain classes have much better survivability, utility, control, and burst with the same dps as less suitable classes.

I agree 100%.

Its not the details, but saying that comment really reflects a deeper change and mentality towards pvp.

I really question GC's position and hope he does not have much effect on the actual game itself.

They said they want to expand the BG system to make more server rivalry ( sry wintergrap sucks) but it also seems like they hinted at guild based pvp ( maybe wsg ladders) and server/guild bg's?

This would hopefully involve a more "chess" like attitude than playing plinko or wack a mole. Or is this game doomed into easy mode bs.

I even put it as my sig. BTW who the F8ck is he talking about, maybe the arena blizzcon team? lol

The people who care about fast arena matches are often the same ones who are trying to cram in their quorum of matches late on a Monday night.
