Soooooooooo......... in the armory when you look up characters and guilds, there is a bar to the far right that gives their "relevance". How is that calculated and what does it mean?
I would guess it means how often that char is played or how far a guild has progressed, but i'm not sure.

well, i dont think it is /played time, because this char used to have a 100% relevance, but it has gone down to 77% since a couple of weeks ago... so im not sure why it has changed.

I believe it also tends to do with when last a certain player was logged in. People who were most recently active or are currently playing tend to jump to the top.

Relevance is a category that attempts to organize your search results so that the most appropriate matches are at the top of the page. The FAQ on the front page of www.wowarmory.com has some further details on relevance too.

Q u o t e:
Similar to a search engine relevance rating, the relevance category attempts to sort the matches to a search with the goal that the most appropriate matches appear near the top of the search results. Relevance is determined by running a combination of factors through an algorithm. These factors are different depending on what category is being searched for. For example, relevancy for a particular character name search may be affected by the level of the character, the last login time of the character, and other factors.
From wowarmory.com, I think this is the text blurb that Bornakk was referring to.

I believe another CM has said before that last log in has a good deal to do with it. e.g., somebody who logged out an hour ago is going to be more relevant than a player that last logged out a week ago.

Q u o t e: ... and what does it mean?
Nothing. Relevance is an attempt to give the illusion of order to a huge pile of stuff, whether it's WoW Armory or Google. The machine does not really know what you are after and therefore cannot actually determine anything about the relevance of its results to you.

...okay?
Thank you for deftly restating the meaning of the word "relevance" for everyone here.
A user asks, "Hey, what criteria go into determining a player's relevance?"
The Blue says, "[Relevance] organizes your search results so that the most appropriate matches are at the top of the page."
That's not answering the question, moron. He wants to know what determines "relevance," and what factors go into assigning "relevance."
