Well here's a reason for you:

I had a guy tell me once that he played a female toon because he didn't want to stare at a dude's butt all the time.

As for the clothes - lets tone it down a bit yes. But lets not completely make everything politically correct in this game...

The message has consistently been in this thread to make the scanty armor optional through a pants slot. Anybody who doesn't want to look like a puritan won't have to.

I assure you that I don't want people looking like a pilgrim. If you look at the links I've posted throughout I think you'll find that they're screenshots where female characters just look absolutely ridiculous.
There is a pretty big difference between this:

and

The second one is hardly like a pilgrim :).

In the end, despite the haughty attitude of the OP, I am forced to agree based on both personal beliefs and sad, sad experience. Ever seen a male BElf in Deadly Borer Leggings? Not pretty. Or maybe it's depressing because it's TOO pretty. I mean c'mon, skintight pants that're open on the sides with neon purple and green coloring? Can I scream male prostitution any louder?

Q u o t e:

I agree that us men may think too much about sex, and that it may negatively impact our interactions with women.

However...I think you're taking things just a little too far here.

How many of the "black mageweave panties" type outfits are there, really?

And is it truly impossible to avoid wearing them if you really don't want to wear them? It's not like they're in tier sets.

Most of the people who wear them are probably like me, who sometimes like that look for a character. There are probably no instances whatsoever that a female who does not want to wear them is required to wear them in order to retain their character's power. If that were the case, then you would be absolutely correct in your outrage and I would be adding my voice to yours.

However, those outfits tend to be few and far between, all the higher powered outfits tend to be completely concealing.

Though I must ask, what exactly is your objection here? Are you objecting that you think there should be even more concealing outfits? Or are you objecting that women appear attractive at all, because you think that men should be denied the satisfaction of seeing attractive female characters? Either way is fine, but it is not like we are living in a country where a woman is required to dress in a completely concealed nun like outfit because the men demand it.

For my part, I would actually like to see more stuff like goth lolita type outfits. They are fancy, attractive, and usually completely concealing.

90% of my friends are girls... lol

Q u o t e:
Now that I've read the thread some more, I have more to think about:

Why do people say that the female clothing is ridiculous? Maybe it is, I am not saying that it is or not. But it seems to be taken as axiomatic and I wish to dispute that. Just because you wouldn't wear something like black mageweave in public does not mean it is inherently indecent, even if prostitutes presumably turn their tricks in Leggings of Concentrated Darkness. I mean, maybe they do, I've never been to the red light district. So if you don't like it, don't wear it, but don't judge it either.

There are also countries where the women commonly wear even less than the women in this culture. Are you going to judge them as well, on the basis that the West is the be all end all of civilization?

Or is it something like "If they're less dressed than me they're @%*!s, if they're more dressed than me they're prudes?"

In any case, I know that it's commonly thought that women suffer feelings of inferiority based on their self image, but how much of that is really a man's fault? You have to love yourself even if you do not fit some impossible ideal. If you can't love yourself, then you can't depend on others to love you either.

First of all, many of the outfits we're talking about you are pretty much forced to wear. The example in my original post - is one of the first rewards you get from the outlands quests. And there really isn't a great upgrade anytime soon - without sacrificing stats or the spell damage bonus. Or take the Carapace of Tuten'kash - http://thottbot.com/i10775. It is THE upgrade for a warrior to go to plate. So yes when you're talking blues, it doesn't make sense to go for a green that doesn't look ridiculous.

Secondly, what is ridiculous? Well for me it could be any number of things (and sometimes more than one) as in: The item in question just looks bad on the toon, it in no way would function as the armor that it should, and for me, the armor in question looks drastically different b/n a male and a female toon. Other people might have other qualifiers. Now in my OP, I show a leg armor that is essentially underwear + leg warmers. It looks bad on my toon, it just looks silly on human toons, and it looks drastically different on a male toon. In fact there would be no way to identify that two 59 lvl mages - one male and one female were in fact wearing the same armor. Now I wouldn't mind looking so dumb IF the male toons had to wear undies + legwarmers as well. Or take the carapace if the males had to wear something that involved holes for their nipples and the pants had a cut out section that highlighted their butts I would have no problem (speaking for myself that is). Then the male carapace would look just as effective in combat as the female counterpart.

In general though, the theme on this thread so far is that many of the women resent being forced to wear armor that they feel overexposes them (and no a tabard will not cover everything). As in, it interferes with their idea of playing a fantasy game. For them, they do not want to be the objects merely to satisfy the male gaze. This is about personal choice. The male toons are never considered an object to be looked at , but the female ones are. Now some women (and a lot of men) want to make female toons just so that they can wear scandalous outfits. And again no one has actually said that those outfits should no longer exist. I've been asking for parity in treatment OR implement a function that allows a woman toon to not expose herself in a way that makes her uncomfortable (as in an optional pants slot).

As for the rest of your post, no one has said anything about other cultures. But I'll mention one - and one that I've had female friends visit. Brazil. In Brazil my female friends walk around comfortably in bikinis and you know why they do it there but not here? Because here they would be catcalled, harassed, and degraded. No one gives a damn in Brazil. Think about that for a second. Maybe we wouldn't mind so much if there weren't constant comments like "Want to port to FNE's pants."

As for women feeling bad, look at the comments from the men in this forum "take out your tampons, get back in the kitchen, etc etc." Women here aren't being treated with any degree of respect or equality. Any time you spend half your day getting berated, try and feel positive and uplifted the rest of the day. But frankly my self-image has very little to do with the men on this forum. I have instead been pointing out the attitudes of the men (and it has not been all of them :) ) who seem to think that the way a woman feels or thinks about the game is unimportant.

Well isn't Looks vs Stats the choice we all have to make?

How many times have you gotten a piece of armor with great stats that looks FUGLY.

Its the exact same thing.

Some women like revealing armor, some women don't.

Maybe next we'll have women complaining because their sexy thong armor got turned into a tin can.

You can't please everybody, but everybody can learn to please themselves, by using the dressing room feature.

PS - About 5 levels ago I got a pair of pants with 10 more stam that made my character look like a flaming homo.

Guess what I did?

Yeah I vendored it.

Maybe the next guy likes the flaming %@%## look, and wears it.

The game is designed for casuals, stats aren't as meaningful as everybody thinks they are. So you get 1400 point MS instead of 1500 point MS, or you get 9000 hp instead of 9600 hp.

I'm one of those people that likes to look good. Your robe could have +100 spell on it, if it looks like a clown costume I simply will not wear it.

If I was a woman, I simply would not wear hoe outfits. Or who knows maybe I'd get off on wearing them.

Either way I would wear what I wanted to look at, whether it had the best stats or not.
