For the top teams in Season 3.. In other words.. After Season 2 if your not in like the top 10% you cant get S3 Weapons?

They said the weaps and other items would require certain ratings. Like weapons requireing a 1900 rating or higher.

You're going to need to reach a specific ratings plateau(the rumor was ~1900) to buy S3 weapons.

Oh well, Glad I don't do much Arena then.. Just was working on the S2 Weapons on my Rogue..

Wanted to know if I should wait till s3 to spend my Points.. Guess not:)

You have to remember that with each new season (say S4), that the restriction will be removed. So even if you are a scrub, you can eventually get upgrades.

Now if they can just fix the situation where people can recreate teams every week. My 5v5 team that refuses to remake would like some other people to join us in the cellar!!!

Just joined a bunch of friends on their 5v5 team (old guild members who quit and came back) and we're there with you, 1300ish rating FTW!!!

Here is how that decision came down.

Blizzard: "How can we keep the best teams from having any real competition?"
Dev Team: "How 'bout we only let the teams who don't need the items be the only ones who can purchase them?"
George W: "Mission Accomplished!"

Having it set around 1800 at the highest would be fair IMO, 1900 is a little too high because a lot of teams hit their "brickwall" stylistically at and around that rating.

I watched the Blizzcon vid the other day and during the pvp panel it was 1900 that was thrown out there. Throwing out numbers wasn't a great idea though because people take it as set in stone.

Not to mention that S2 weapons will still be freely available (and S1 weapons via honor from BGs). Anyone can still get a very, very good epic weapon, even if you're mediocre at PvP. Letting the top players get a 103 DPS 1h or something while everyone else has to "settle" for 98 DPS isn't going to unbalance anything.

You speak the truth, based on the way Season 2 was upgraded from Season 1 if they continue in that linear progression the weapons will be better but not "OMFG I MUST HAVE"

Now if they end up putting like 140dps 2 handers and just insane weapons into Season 3 (which I dont think they would) then it might be a little skewed

I think the dev team is confusing MMOGs with a genre more heavily skill oriented.

If you take out the carrot or make it impossible, people quit MMOGs. This has been shown repeatedly in every game. Raising the arena point cost to 20,000 points on current point gain system? Fine - people will grind that, and they have the goal in sight. Get to Y rating against the smurf teams? People quit.

I can tell you from personal experience upping the 'skill' level required for a heavily social oriented game doesn't increase the enjoyability - I screwed up a game I ran a decade ago doing a very similar thing (admittedly, with a much smaller playerbase).

As a raider currently in the Black Temple.. I really don't care if everyone and their cousin has a weapon a little below the quality of what we're spending repairs on... In fact, if all the rogues have their arena weapons instead of waiting for random_drop_035, we probably do a little more damage, and the resist gear I whined about in another threat takes less damage! If some guy in all greens has a season 3 weapon in his PUG steamvaults.... why do I care?

Nobody cares. Just let all the gimps have 'em. (And add some PvE tanking stuff too please, thanks!)

Both you guys are full of epics and on SUB 1500 rated teams... maybe you 2 just aren't very good at pvp.

Arena is pvp. Get over it.
