Eh, the Voidwalker isn't going to tank a mob for you anymore, but when are you killing just one mob anyhow? Aside from that, have you ever gone toe-to-toe with a mob your level? You can sit there and let him beat on you all day if you have SL up, they're laughably weak.

I use the Voidwalker as an offtank. When I gather up mobs he holds them for me while I dot them. I just keep running to the next mob, and by the time they peel off the Voidwalker I've got enough range for them to die without getting any hits on me. Also, you can always sacrifice him if you screw up and pull too many.

I also experienced this. Exactly this. I'm fine if voidy can't solo tank an equal level elite because he's too squishy, but because he can't hold aggro from Siphon Life and Health Funnel? Torment on auto-cast, Suffering 3-4 seconds into the pull, and I have to Soulshatter 15-20 seconds in after that, and kill it with Voidy auto attacks and Siphon Life damage. Once it's down to about 25% health I can just burn it out, but until then, I'm doing all of 120 dps + pet damage.

Make every elite dual wield Warglaives for all I care, but at least let him hold threat off of a rabid squirrel.

I tried using it on small group quests in every zone form 70-80 and every time it failed. I have played a lock since 1.0 and I have never seen the VW in worse shape then it is now. If you are not Demo its a wasted shard.

Basically, if I can't drain tank a mob, the VW won't be able to tank that mob either. It makes the "tank" pet worthless.

I did level as demo to level 80, but I didn't put points into imp voidwalker until the mid 70's. His threat generation was the biggest problem, but when specced right, I could solo any quest elite. The ones with a threat wipe were a huge hurdle, but those are managable as well if you have the right strategy.

But doesn't figuring how much of a buff that is involve dividing by zero?

I like a good Lock QQ thread as much as the next pissed off lock, but this does not match my experience. The VW might be useless for anything beyond holding agg, but he can usually do that relatively well.

Awesome. I just hope there will be more dailies that involve difficult elites so I can make use of it at level 80. Any chance of lowering the cooldown on suffering too? It'd make the voidwalker more useful when trying to AOE farm.

VW has always been terrible, but I feel like chiming in since I had an experience last night. I was helping a lvl 75 alt friend w/ a quest, mob was something like a lvl 76 elite w/ 100k health (don't remember specifics). I sent in the VW, let it get some threat, cast Immolate, then Corruption, then Health Funnel since the VW was getting low. After about 2 seconds of Health Funnel, guess who had aggro? Why can hunter pets tank instances with a full group DPSing, and the VW can't hold threat on a single mob? (Yeah, I know, old news, QQ moar, etc - I don't use the VW for good reason :)

I use my VW for killing 3 man world elites that don't hit like trucks.

I can only use 1 dot at a time (siphon life is best for this). If I tack on a corruption or a curse of agony on top of that i WILL pull aggro off my VW within 2-3 casts.

If i cast a nuke or two? aggro is mine, and he won't get it back.

The VW threat generation has always been abysmal, i used this exact same strategy soloing three man bosses in TBC and there is no difference between how many dots i could have up.

I did this just yesterday on 3 different group quest elites labeled for 3 man groups (100k+ HP on each).

It's fun that i can solo these mobs though, even if it does take 10 minutes.

I'm pretty confident that the Felguard probably puts out more TPS with just it's DPS abilities.

Ghostcrawler, that is a huge buff to their threat. Why was it so low before? Were you ok with the previous numbers despite what the beta testers were saying? Were you afraid of letting pets hold aggro over well geared players?
