In the sixth epic episode of BlizzCast, we spend a day with a developer and find out what life is like for World of Warcraft Lead Tools Programmer Monte Krol. Next, we take a look at StarCraft II unit design from concept to creation with Senior Art Director Samwise Didier and Lead Game Designer Dustin Browder. In our third segment, Bashiok spends some time with Anthony Rivero, senior artist for Diablo III, and discusses "bridging the gap" in the series’ character design. Bornakk wraps the episode up by answering some questions from the community.

I ragged on you the last five times for being the only podcast that discouraged subscribing by updating the RSS a week after a new episode, so I have to give you credit this time - I saw the new blizzcast in my podcast list before the announcement went out.

Thanks for doing it right this time!

What? Only a couple of reader's questions on WoW?

If you're going to be slack and only release an episode once every 4-5 months, at least have more than 2 readers' questions per game.

Also, what's with talking about WotLK as if it hasn't been released yet?

As a hobbyist game programmer I really enjoyed this episode. My ears perked up for the discussion about 2d vs. 3d and sprite composites, and about the internal tools.

Yah, i have little intention (or even interest in) of going into programming as a career choice, but my brother i think is (he's still young, early days) so at the very, very least it was very awesome to hear the advice from the Tools guy. Really informative from the perspective of someone who may want to become a programmer at Blizzard, or any other company for that matter. So thanks a lot for that little segment, i suspect you guys might not be fully aware of just how valuable that information can be.

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place to give comments and suggestions about the podcast, but this is the only place I could find talking about it. If this should be somewhere else please let me know, i'm not a big forum poster.

- The current people preforming the interviews have very little personality, sound dreary and robotic, and the reading of scripted questions and intros sound very amateur in comparison to the professional and successful image of Blizzard. I'm sure they are great people, but they are boring.

- Hour long podcasts seem like an overkill, especially with the above criticism.

- There seems to be no solid direction (management) in the interviews. When a question is asked, an appropriate answer is expected. When guests continue after the question is answered, or go too far into the subject or similar subjects or anecdotes or technicalities, it gets very boring and dry.

- In Episode 6, the interview with Anthony Rivero, while i think it might have been interesting it was too soft spoken and mostly unintelligible. I had to turn my volume all the way up and the transition to the next segment was startling. A simple "Hey could you not whisper into the mic" or audio adjustment could have fixed the problem. I wonder if the podcast was reviewed on whole when it was put together. If it was, this again, felt amateur.

I'm sure my comments will be overlooked and missed, given the sheer number of people on the forums, but this being the sixth poorly produced podcast from a company that makes millions a month, i had to say something. I hope the quality of the podcast improves next week/month/two months (whenever the next cast is available)

I really enjoyed hearing about the programming and software development side of WoW. I'm a comp sci grad student, so it's a total intersection of professional and personal interests.

Hey, Neth, you know what would be really incredibly awesome to read? A book/"pre-mortem" about the software development process that WoW employs and how it manages to ship such a large-scale piece quality software regularly. I would totally buy that.

edit: Niorik, there is a transcript available to read as well. :-)
