There is definitely a lot of AE (area effect damage) going on in World of Warcraft dungeon runs at the moment. We’re not too worried about it for now – on the contrary it’s nice to see so many people doing the level-up dungeons on the way to level 80. If we find that AE tank + AE damage strategy (with no sheeping, sapping or other crowd control) is the only way people are running heroics and raids, then we’ll probably make some changes, but for now we’re content to just see what happens.

Having said all that, we feel like a few groups are being left out of the AE fun, which makes them of less utility in the 5-player dungeons. We aren’t able to provide a lot of details yet, but here are some upcoming changes we’re making.

Shaman – we are removing the threat component from Fire Nova Totem and Magma Totem and increasing the damage from Magma Totem. This should provide the Elemental shamans in particular with some formidable AE.

Rogue – we are removing the cooldown from Fan of Knives and adjusting the damage calculation slightly to make daggers more useful for this ability.

Druid – we are adding Swipe (Cat) as a baseline ability.

As is the case with most multi-target abilities, these three should be something you want to use when faced with groups, but never against single targets. Fan of Knives and Swipe, for example, don’t grant combo points so they should never be a core part of the rotation against single targets (like most bosses).

These changes will be available in the next minor content update, so keep an eye out for the next PTR push.

While you are here GC, could you possibly take a look at the issue Balance is having with the GCD, Nature's Grace, and Wrath? I know this isn't a thread on that topic, and I do hate derailing threads, but it's a very significant issue that we're currently being faced with.

The Wrath Equation -

Heh, I just posted on this.

Nice to see they're paying attention.

But see my post (a strange nerf to request)

I will now be able to blast my enemies with the power of the elements... and have a couple of pups gnawing at their heels

Why not just lessen the tanks strangle hold on threat, which would in turn lessen the effective use of AoE as a strat in difficult dungeons, and at the same time, add value back to MisDirect and ToT, and more importantly, feign death and vanish?

As it stands, everyone goes all out all the time, and those classes whose value is invested in their low-threat dps won't be as much a fossil from when such things used to matter?

While it does make every single instance I've done in Wrath hilariously easy and brainless, this might indeed be a problem. We absolutely AE every single pack of trash mobs in the game, from 5 mans to 25 man Naxx. Threat is hardly an issue and neither is incoming tank damage. Just tag a group, give the tanks 5 seconds to throw down a consecration/shockwave/cleave/whatever and go to town on whatever you want. I don't even mark mobs for my raid unless I'm bored, just run in and smash.

I am sorry, but aoe will become even more of an issue, since everyone will aoe the trash or add or whatever.

GC,you do know that everyone is doing aoe on the trash in Naxxramas right? This with level 70 epic and blue gear from heroic...

GC, i would like to ask you to please reconsider the shaman change. As it stands, this is a great change for enh shaman, however as an elemental shaman, if i am standing back 30 + yards nuking, having to stop what im doing, run into a crowd of mobs and toss down a totem (which removes my group/raid buffing totem) is a huge hassle and a rather large loss in both my personal dps and raid dps as well.

Please, reconsider simply adding a new talent in the elemental tree, say a 31 pointer or something such as volcano or earthquake where we can do a targeted and ranged AOE like every other caster class has.

Thanks for your time.

NO NO AND NO

God damn no.

ENOUGH WITH THE TOTEMS /cry

We need something that is castable at range, not some half-assed fix like shaman always get. If this is your fix to AOE, I can't wait to see what we get for a scaling fix. /sarcasm

They already re-considered.

This is their answer.

Besides, it doesn't require a lot of additional work to achieve, and has been expected by some of us since GC said they wanted to work on Shaman AoE a month and a half ago.

/facepalm magma totem ????

So we are going to run in from ranged into melee with a static totem with 8 yard range on mobile mobs...

Then run back out to cast range, then run back in when totem expires...rinse and repeat...

( not to mention we have to run back in to recast totem if they get out of our totem's 8 yard range )

frankly this benefits enhancement more seeyign as they dont have to waste travel time...nway...we lose again.

blizzard is brilliant.

I have shadowflame.

I'm an idiot if I run up to a pack of mobs and shadowflame them. It's very counter-intuitive. Especially since I have other, much better options for AOE that don't require me to get up in the face of mobs.

And now you're doing the same to shamans.

Except they don't really have another AOE to fall back on.

Would make more sense to drop the totem at the start of the fight and then get range.

Unless "brilliant" has come to mean lazy and unimaginative, I think your assessment may be a bit skewed.
