All things come to an end.

People quit the game for many reasons. They also start the game for many reasons. At some point, the number quitting will overcome the number starting or returning, and we will see the decline. The game may even die in some part of the world where a new MMORPG can outshine WoW.

Battlegroups will be merged, to support PvP. Realms will be merged to reinvigorate stagnant populations. When the population in the game falls below the 5 million mark, let's say, the expansions will be much less expansive.

But the servers holding WoW folks won't likely shut down for decades. This is based on the longevity of games such as Ultima Online, which survive based on populations of a couple of hundred thousand (one or two battlegroups).

As long as it's economically feasible for Blizzard to create content, pay the salaries of the GMs and CMs, manage the servers and handle the bandwidth costs, then, no, WoW will not finish.

This is the game that never ends...

You can check in anytime you like but you can never leave...

Sure, all things have an end but I guess you could say we don't see one just as of yet and everyone has a different idea of what "finished" means. Even should WoW someday end, the stories of the people of Azeroth will always live on either in memory or in the possibility of what more could have been within someone's imagination.

Q u o t e:
WoW will end when their next MMO takes all the subscribers away from WoW.

Then the warcraft universe will go back to its RTS roots.

Thank god if this happens.

This. And seeing as Blizz's active subs are still going up, and they could easily be profitable at 10% of their current number of customers (pretty sure they originally hoped for 1mil but considered that optimistic), I suspect it'll be a few years yet.
