Title says it all :)
I'd love to be able to spy on peoples achievements via armory!

Thanks

They did state they are planning on doing this, the 'when' is the issue due to expansion work.

I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

This.

If it was really easy to flip a switch and make them appear online we'd have done it already, but it does take a good amount of work actually. We do plan to add that at some point in the future as we continue to update and improve The Armory.

I imagine that doing this requires a LOT of database work behind the scenes, and especially optimization of them. Imagine the Armory getting severely bogged down by not only character and item requests, but also Arena teams/rankings, and now achievements thrown in.

I think the devs have quite a few more things on their plate than this 'gee whiz' addition...

Q u o t e:

I remember before armory there were tools that would allow my guild to see everything in a persons BANK and everythign they were equipping and more.

We had a guild toon and this was how we made a guild bank before they had guild banks.

So if some basement clowns can come up with a 3rd pary app on a shoestring budget, I'm sure Blizzard isn't hurting in regards to capability and staffing.

Except that app was only looking at people in your guild.
Now scale that so that you're looking at 11 Million accounts, all with multiple characters.

It's not as easy as you think, in terms of optimization.

I don't like the idea of people being able to inspect me and see the most amount of gold I've ever had.

Good point.

One way around that is to have a bank alt under Level 10 hold most of your gold. They won't appear in the Armory, so not searchable.

Still, not an ideal solution for many, I'd agree.

I still think Star Wars Galaxies had the biggest data base in the history of MMO's per player. Wish I could see a comparison. FFS I had 6 houses and multiple spaceships and a space YACHT! All filled with 20X my current WOW banks capacity in EACH house!

Oh man, tell me about it...even with only 300K players, I think their DB was easily 10s as large as WoW currently is due to player housing! I mean, I had two museums running, each completely packed with random crap from around the universe.

Personally, I think that is the #1 reason why Blizzard has been dragging their heels on player housing, even after saying pre-Launch that is was a 'desirable addition in the first year'. I don't blame them.

Perhaps, but there's no point in player housing if you can't customize it...
Also, even if it were instanced, you'd still have to store the data file of the customized room/area in a DB someplace.

It eventually becomes a database storage nightmare.

But yeah, the extreme customization of SWG housing was both awesome for the player and destructive to the game at the same time =(

...I miss it terribly.

What a great idea, this could usher in a whole new way to invalidate people's arguments and opinions. Instead of 'Nice gems, scrub' , 'Nice gear, noob' or the ever popular 'Nice 1500 rating' we could get such gems as 'Way to only eat 16 of 50 foods, casual', or 'Enjoy your welfare achievements, ' or even 'Couldn't be bothered to explore all of Durotar, huh?'

I have a love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and a rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.

Don't forget the wonderful "did they implement a random button on the talent window last patch?".

I really don't think they would implement the statistic part of that. If you do a normal comparison in game with another player, they just list the achievements, not the statistics.

Glyphs, man. I want to laugh at the people who actually added Glyph of Lockpicking.

I don't like to think of myself as a Blood Elf, but rather a Paladin for the horde. The ridiculous looking ears and eyebrows are a deformity.

I really think Achievements should be private. It's really just for yourself and a person wants to have their Achievements seen, then there can be an option to turn it on for them. At least have some level of character privacy. We can't protect our gear, stats, rep, etc., but at least let us keep our Achievements and Stats private.

Why would you want your achievement to be private?? That's like winning a race and there's nobody there to witness it. I understand if you're a sub par player and don't want people to see how bad you, sure have a setting in your account to hide your achievements... seems silly though.

What does being a "sub par" player have to do with not wanting the world to know how you play or don't play? I don't run around looking for achievements, but I also don't think someone should be judged based on that.

That said, having the ability to show or not show would solve that problem. If you want to be in competition with other people over Achievements, then that option is yours. Personally, I don't care what someone has done on their character, and I think a little restraint on what information is available to other players should be taken into consideration.

I look a Achievements as a form of personal gratification and not something I want to share with the world.
