If we're going to do this big tent style forum thing, and though it will take some time to adjust its probably for the best... Blizzard should evaluate the fact that caster DPS classes/specs have about as much in common with each other as they do with tanking or healing specs.

This forum is going to be too big, and may even end up moving faster then the general forums and will be comparable in usefulness to them as well.

If this was getting done right we'd have four forums. Healing, Tanking, Caster Damage & Melee Damage.

This pot is too big.

Good question. Hunters are casters, but we deal physical damage.

We might consider that route eventually. For now it's important for all the classes filling a particular role to actually have to have their discussions more publicly where they are forced to defend their arguments (especially the QQ) in front of other classes.

Yea with the mage armor now confirmed as being "Fine working as intended"... be prepared for a new level of war. Till now mages were drowning out locks... now they are going to get hunted, qqed at by every caster, hounded, called skill-less morons and everything else in between.

I for one welcome the chaos that the mages now deserve to face for their consistent QQ over the last 2 years. They should feel the pain of being drowned out, focus-fired in BGs, their player ability questioned just because they play a certain class, should be called oom-ages and when they fail in raids ( which most will because quite a few wont be bothered to adapt) be called scrubs.

Its not that way already?

A raid might average 3 tanks 7 healers. 15 dps.

So 12% is one forum. 28% is one forum. Fine these are fantastic. But the remaining 60% all lumped together? This is madness. Rogues, Arms warriors, fury warriors, warlocks, mages, shadow priests, enhance shaman, elemental shaman, ret pallies, hunters all together? It's just silly

Melee and casters don't have anything to talk about. My guild has a melee channel and a caster channel. I bet most do. That's because it makes sense.

Focusing on the positve, I love the tank and healing forums. Those will work out tremendously I believe. DPS is just a different animal. There are too many of us and it's too varied to work.

Hold on, I've had a brainstorm. If you separate melee and casters where do Hunters go? This big mess is just so Hunter don't feel isolated! Well too bad. They are freaks... categorically speaking. :P Lock them up in the hunter forum and give us melee and caster forums. Want hunters to be involved in the discussion? Too bad, the game isn't designed that way.

I'm half kidding with the hunter stuff, but there is an element of truth to it. They don;t really fit either catagory.

Anyhow here's the thing. I want to talk to mages, and locks, and ele shaman, and other spriest. I really do. As an officer in my guild I love being informed about the play styles and concerns of the classes I work with and manage, but I don't want to wade through crap about rogues or ret pallies to do it.

I would love a caster forum, but this generic damage dealing one I'm afraid will be unusable. As developers say the "signal to noise ratio" just won't be worth it.

They're forced to do that ANYWAY - Warriors aren't banned from the rogue forums etc.

This particular argument for these role forums is moot.

The fact that casters generally know so little about melee and vice versa is a compelling reason to force them to communicate, in my opinion.

You forgot Druids would be split up among all four forums then, since cat would go to the melee board and the boomkins would linger with us casters.

Rather than melee vs. caster, consider melee vs. ranged. Then Hunters have a clearer idea of where to go. With stats such as hit + crit now functional as both physical and caster stats, the merge is more feasible. Of course, they'd focus on AP instead of spell power, and that's an important difference. For the most part, Hunters should consider core issues such as positioning, threat margins, kiting, etc. similar to ranged dps casters. Hell, they even have pets to deal with, same as locks, and mages + spriests + ele shams to lesser extents.

Still though, my rogue has about as much in common with the way an enhancement shaman or fury warrior (read rage and mana) dps's as he does a warlock.

Just because we all attack within melee range doesn't make us similar in the ways we produce dps.

I don't really see the commonality being high enough to justify a melee vs caster split.
