Q u o t e:

Come on Blizzard. This is on you. How much more can we screw with our computers before you figure out you messed up? I mean have some common sense and figure out that the only thing that changed on our computers was YOUR software! I still have all the same old guts I have had in my computer since December of 07. Everything I played TBC on was in my compuer and I have zero problems. Now patch 3.0.8 comes out and everyone and their grandmother is having problems.

almost 100 pages woth of people screaming for answers and wanting something done but you ignore your players. I guess if you keep up with the crapy service you will soon start losing the players that can not play your game. FIX YOUR GAME!

i dont think blizzard cares about its players anymore... they have so much money they dont have too -_-

EVERYONE CANCEL YOUR WOW ACCOUNTS AND THEN MAYBE THEY WILL NOTICE >:D

i mean we all are having crappy service and cant even play the game but we dont even think of canceling our wow accounts because we are so attached to it... WE MUST FIGHT THERE HOLD OVER US >:0

I have never felt the need to post anything until now (I am a very shy lurker). Alas, when I try to play, I get the same acid-trippy crashing stuff as everyone else in this thread. I've tried nearly everything I've read here; the only thing that briefly worked was the vacuuming of dust from my computer.

Thusly, I'd like to bump this, for I'm about ready to cry, gnash my teeth, pull my hair out and sundry other things. And my constant yelling at my computer is making my dog nervous.

Q u o t e:

i don't think wow would have an effect on the boot sequence or on firefox crashing; i think you are having other issues with her device. if you are worried about wow causing a problem with a new os build, i would recommend creating a partition for your os and a separate partition for your games.

the only problems with wow that i've experienced was a lot of disk fragmentation in the game directory, but that *shouldn't* cause your os to tank the way it did....

Well normally I wouldn't have thought so either, only the patch was the only configuration change made to the machine before it died. Perhaps coincidentally she was also experiencing all the symptoms the other Vista 64 users here have suffered.

I was concerned that something in the patch corrupted portions of the hard drive, or altered other processes that caused a corruption in the MBR. If the patch is adding and deleting files, if the directory structure in the scripts running during the patch process are wrong they could make changes in unintended directories with unforeseen consequences.

basically. I'm just going to let my account run out this month, not out of spite or because I think it will make a remote difference if I do it, or even if everyone complaining in this thread does it - we've already given them so much money they probably just use it for toilet paper at this point - but I'm not going to pay for a service I'm not getting.

basically the hardlocks have made it unplayable. As i described a few pages ago, I have done EVERYTHING - opengl/no sound, defragged, reinstalled my os and only put wow on it, deleted the "problem" folders, play without mods and on lowest settings, play with no sound, dusted and ran temp check (no problems there) - it doesn't matter. Ever since this last patch I'm eating hardlocks/complete comp freeze that i have to reboot at the switch within 5 - 25 minutes of logging on. And i only make it to 25 if I avoid northrend, meaning i can't play my level 80 main basically ever.

It's really too bad. i WANT to play this game, regardless of whether I'm giving this giant soulless game company their 15 bucks a month. But I've been playing 3+ years, I have alot of friends I play with, including an irl friend that moved out of state and JUST got the game and i convinced them to roll on my server. well sucks for them i guess, again, not that blizzard gives a flying frak about any of this.

oh well. I'll check back maybe in a few months to see if anything's changed, I plan on getting a new comp at some point soon regardless, although it looks like there are plenty of people with newer comps that are having this issue. Would be nice if they at least acknowledged there was a problem instead of letting their paying customers sit here and try and figure out amongst ourselves what the hell is wrong.

Until then though, I sure as heck am not paying for a game I can't even use. cheers though, I hope you kids make some progress to solving the problem, because blizzard don't exactly seem to be on it.

Q u o t e:

Sounds like you have a similar setup to mine, if you're running Vista (32/64bit) try the following to see if it helps:
1) Right click on the WoW.exe and choose properties
2) Click on the "Compatibility" tab
3) Check/Enable "Disable desktop composition"
4) Check/Enable "Disable display scaling on high dpi settings" (in hindsight, not sure this is really needed unless you've change DPI settings)

After making these changes, I'm now able to play in windowed mode with SLI , full on AA and Anistropic filtering with NO freezing.

you got me damn excited....but it didn't work for me...thanks for the suggestion though!! does this work for anyone else?

the only thing that has worked for me was as i stated above i reformatted to vista 32 barebones basic and reinstalled WoW. Now i did do one thing diffrent this time around

1. Installed WoW
2.Installed BC (note i upgraded all the way to the latest patch)
3. installed WOTLK. Since i have done this i havent had any problem thus far i have been playing in windowed mode or fullscreen mode and havent had any problems.

Bump

Like others in this thread, I've tried everything, and I am ready to scream. I would hate to have to cancel my account, but if I can't play, then I can't rationalize paying for it. :(

Just thought I'd share some details for Blizzard.
I was 4boxing last night and noticed this long duration/freeze issue as well. It happened while I was in Magister's Terrace. Two accts are on one system and the other two are played on another computer beside me. They are both different systems (different processor models) with different model video cards as well.
Both systems encountered this issue. Frequently at the same time and only when facing the same direction.

From what I noticed, it seemed to be caused by some object at I was facing. If all 4 characters were facing away from it, they'd be fine. But occasionally looking down one of the halls (facing Vexallus) would make the characters freeze up. If I waited patently enough (1 to 2 minutes) and kept tapping the "D" key to face away, eventually when it 'unfroze', I'd be facing away and be fine again.
This happened on two of the characters, occurring on both computers. The strange thing is it didn't freeze all 4 of the characters. There'd be times when anywhere from 1 to 3 characters would get frozen like this.

This happened again (outside the instance) at one of the buildings with the quest NPCs. I'd grab a quest and turn to leave with all 4 characters and 1 or 2 characters would get frozen.
From the other character's point of view (the ones that were not affected at the time), it looks like the frozen characters are running in place.

Only once did any of the frozen characters get disconnected. The client actually crashed with an error that WoW ran out of memory. This is on a system with very little background tasks running and 3 gig of ram. Until this freeze issue, it had never occurred before.

I've noted that when the freeze happens, my HD is not thrashing like I would have expected. This was to my surprise.

Anyway, hopefully some of that will be of some use.

I guess others are right in this forum. Blizzard has just let us go and after my 2 month card runs out I am done until they decide to fix their game for their players. I get the same BS reply as other players and I give the same answer back. Nothing you tell me to do fixes my problems.

Blizzard get it though your head this is not our hardware! We did not all of a sudden upgrade your software and then change everything inside our boxes. We have the same stuff inside that we did when no one had this problem!!!

GET THIS FIXED! Quit blaming it on us!

The retired Warlock because we suck as a class!

At the risk of being repetetive, me too.
It has been miserable since the big pre Lich King patch, this makes me V sad. I thought maybe I needed a new video card but alot of the other replies are from people with much better cards than mine so what now....
I've noticed the problems stop in capital cities, in mines/caves and such, and in certain zones. Strangely it seems the more i've played in a zone the worse it is.
Don't suppose posting will help much but I feel better for the whine, hmmm wine, now that's a good idea.

I, also, have this same exact problem as mentioned hundreds of times prior to this post. I recently built myself a new computer and it started happening, so thinking it was my video card (as i had tried everything anyone suggested) returned it and bought a better one. I received it today and I'm experiencing the same problem once again. Oddly enough, WoW causes no freezing when I don't have a video card installed, but I can't say I love WoW enough to flat out not use one as I enjoy playing other games. My last resort is canceling my account and I would advise anyone else having this problem to do the same. There's 90 pages of people with this problem and Blizzard can't even give any of us any feedback in regards to if they're even working to get to the bottom of this problem or whatnot.

i ended up buying a usb x-fi card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102020) and disabled my onboard sound in the BIOS. so far, i have not experienced any further game hard locks. i only started using the card yesterday, but i was able to run the game for 5 hours without any issues.

hey its great that this works for you, but honestly, if thats the solution, we shoulnd't have to go to that much trouble, we're already paying to have support for this sort of stuff. Surely they can fix this in the program itself?

Blizzard, please, even if it's just to tell us you're looking at the situation, give us something.

I'm at a loss, like many others, as to what to do.

I got a new graphics card today (Nvidia 6200 OC) from a Nvidia 5500. I ran fine last night with my 5500 but like always I was lagging bad, and in Naxxaramus I was pausing a lot (Lag/Graphic issue). I never lagged like that in Naxxaramus. I'm not sure me installing a new Graphics card is the problem or not. When I look at the display options on windows I notice little dots on the little computer Icon.

Also, my pc freezes on the logon screen of world of warcraft. Can any one help?
