people are all upset because it has been 3 days and oh no they don't have it yet.
No, people are upset because we're smart enough to know that even if we go every day for the duration of the even we may never get the drop.

Do people honestly care that much about this achievment? Honestly? Wow. Lol.

It's not about this ONE achievement, no. It's about the [What a Long, Strange Trip it's Been]

http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?achievement=2144

The requirement for that being Hallowed be thy name, needing the sinister squashling. If people are unable to get the squashling to drop this year then they have to wait an entire year for halloween to roll around again for a chance to complete it, and thus the What a Long, Strange Trip it's Been.

Our purpose is to maintain stability in an unstable world - kill one, save a thousand.

I apologize blizzard, but this random drop requirement for a year long trek to get a mount is utter garbage. Look at most MMO's out there and you will see that rewards are given to players that have shown they will stick with a game. All of these rewards are also purely cosmetic, as are this mount and titles given. So why I must ask have most of your player base been playing upwards of 2years or more yet when we are finally given a chance at rewards for our dedication, you decide to stick in a random drop in a 16day window once a year. Explain this mentality.

how are you in a group of 5 getting so many summons?
or are you just scrubbing them off other people?

I still don't see what the problem would be with a compromise of just making the achievement require only one of the items, instead of both.

Five is the maximum, not the average. Unless you get a bunch of people willing to be subservient to your whims.

I am going to lay this out.

An individual striving for the achievement will run it 5 times per day in an overwhelming average of the population. It is this metric that is used to balance the drop rate.

It is not the maximum. Clearly you would like it to be, but stating as such does not make it any more the case. People can run it more than five times per day.

However, going over that line falls into a smaller subset of more dedicated and extreme individuals, and that is not what we base our decisions on in terms of drop rate and average completion of the achievement.

EDIT: And yes, based on this, there will be some people who try this year and do not complete Sinister Calling.

Now hold on, Kujako. I said the average was 5 summons a day, and that people doing more were the extreme end. Let's not twist my words. ;)

And yes, we're basing it off that 5 summons a day average.

Brew of the Year, it's ridiculous. I could live with the one year wait, but how is it fair at all that because I didn't do it this year, before Achievements were implemented, before I even knew about it, that some idiot who just unknowingly walked into it will get it a year before me and I'll have to wait two?

Achievement? More like Luckment. AMIRITE???

Seriously though, would it be so bad to cut the drop rate in half and let the whole group loot it?

I had the pet and the helm drop back to back and won both rolls. But besides that, people really shouldn't be worrying about the drop rates 4 days into a 15 day event. I think the drop rates are pretty good imo, I've been in groups where at least one would drop.

I love this event. It gave me a title for my birthday.

My problem with this event is that it encourages and rewards players acting in unsportsmanlike fashions.

You are more likely to get this pet if you lie about having a summon in order to join groups.
You are more likely to get this pet if you "disconnect" when it is your turn to summon to a group and join more groups later on.
You are more likely to get this pet if you make a group of 4, invite random pugs, make them summon, and kick them.
You are more likely to get this pet if you ninja loot.

This achievement doesn't reward work, or time invested. It rewards luck, and it rewards being a jerk.

For future achievements of this sort (and please if at all possible for this one!) take the event off of a daily quest. Allow groups who really, REALLY want this pet to put forth the effort and farm it more than just 5 times a day on average.

Either that, or put this pet on a token system.

I really don't want to have to POLICE my PuGs to ensure that I won't be taken advantage of. That is just unfun and goes against the holiday spirit.

In addition, if I am taken advantage of, that means that I am doing LESS than 5 summons a day. It is undeniable that the best way to get this pet and beat the RNG is to lie, cheat, and steal.

OK here is how I see it and a lot will not like my thoughts.

Pre-BC we needed groups just to get to an instance as the outer world around them was spawned with ELITE mobs and then to get the really good gear to took 40-man raids of lvl 60s in the best gear they could obtain just to survive and only then you had a 20% chance to actually clear the raid in the 14 days before it reset if you raided it 4-5 hrs a day. Military style ranks were obtained only thru PvP BGs and allowed you to wear the gear of that rank, but behold at the end of the week when the Honor system rolled if you lost your rank you could no longer wear the gear for the rank you had the previous week so you had to grind a few sets of PvP gear just to be able to compete.

Since BC launched it no longer takes at the very shortest 15 days on in game play to get from 1 - 60 it not takes and I have seen it 2 in game days to reach lvl 70 and gear is from reputations you gain when running 5-mans and the xp to lvl was decresed while the xp per quest was incresed. All elite mobs outside dungeons was removed and the best gear in the game comes from a 10man.

Echos of Doom has let me see walk up to a pumpkin right click and WHAM you get an achievement.

Seriously go out and actually work for something in this game and not have everything passed to you like a bottle of milk and a clean diaper, I have seen the beta and for those that cry now over an achievement will never get to lvl 80 because as far as I am concerned it is almost like Pre-BC again where no lele is given to you with a silver spoon.

When those of us who played Pre-BC were stripped of our pride as none of us got the achievements for Naxx and alot didn't get credit for stuff like, Blackwing Lair and in some cases Molten Core, Zul Gurub or AQ40 we are not crying over it in masses and when it takes you 40-man Raid in the best gear possible 5-8hrs a day for 14 days to complete these achievements come back and then complain all you want because only then you have earned the right and you will see the masses crying with you.

If you login on maintenance day and for the entire day the servers do not crash or lag, Blizzard contracted out the work.

I'm not sure if I'm just unlucky, or if the drop rate is still rather low, but from around 40-50 kills of the horseman on this ONE character, I've seen 1 squashling (on the very first kill, lost roll), about 8-10 cloth helms, 2 horseman's epic helms, about 15 brooms, 1 sword and 0 mounts.

It's possible it's just bad luck, but at the moment I'm running on about 2% drop rate for the squashling, which is pretty low. I'll keep trying until the end of the event and hope for a lucky RNG, but I'm not particularly liking the fact I could go the whole event and not see it again, putting in TONS of effort for no reward.

The mount, etc, obviously should be random.

I find it kind of funny that stuff marked as EPICS (rings, horseman helm's, etc) have a much better drop rate than the stuff marked as RARE. Don't you think there should be some kind of proportion? If something is everywhere, it's not really epic, is it? :P Where as the rare stuff is actually really the epic drops you're after.

I can not summon it more then five times a day without getting others to summon it for me. If you know of a way to summon more then once per day per person in the five man group without pulling in others who exist simply to increase your chances and thus decrease their own, please share it.

I wonder if Blizzard Human Resources department rolls a D20 to find out which dev gets the raise or the corner office.

Achievements should be based on APTITUDE. ABILITY. DETERMINATION.

NOT DICE.
