Weird bug experienced by my brother when he logged in for the first time today after patching. For some strange reason, in addition to his race's normal languages (Common and Gnomish) he's also got 300 points in Draconic.

I'm wondering if there's anyone else who'se experienced anything similar and if they know how they got it. The game engine really does mangle his speech into Draconic complete with the correct [Language] tag and syllable replacements, verified by having myself stand next to him while he spoke. Also, he's actually able to read the text of the 'Draconic for Dummies' books in Stormwind and Undercity.

I'm having him collect screenshots of instances where NPCs use Draconic and such, too - freed drakes in Shadowmoon Valley, etcetera. Hopefully I'll have some to post soon.

Could this finally be an implementation of a learnable cross-faction language in the game, or just a bug? I'm hoping it's the former.

Your brother is a rogue? I just want to confirm this.

Gnome Rogue. He doesn't want me handing out his name, though.

(( I have this too. And I can confirm that it only seems to be happening with existing gnome rogue characters. Two of my other rogues (Rabbly and Rally) have it, as do several of my friends. It is only gnome rogues, and newly rolled gnome rogues don't seem to have it. Look it up on the Armory to see, last I checked it was still showing up there.

Here's the crazy part. I've been working on the Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest chain, and I just recently finished up the branch were you reassemble the text of Draconic for Dummies for Narain Soothfancy. I was startled to discover my ability to speak the language after today's patch, and assumed it had something to do with the questline. Later on in the night, it became clear that most (if not all) existing gnome rogues had the language.

To make it even more mysterious, I've been told that in the WotLK beta, someone who completed the Scepter quest chain was able to understand Draconic speech where others could not.

I have no idea what any of this means, but I'm very intrigued. It's an incredible coincidence that I just happened to complete that branch of the questline dealing with Draconic translation, and now myself and every other race/class combo that matches mine can speak Draconic too. It's probably just a coincidence but ... wow.

I hope I get to keep the language, but I'm expecting not. ))

IMO post some screenshots of some translated draconic for us.

My rogue is gnome (trubs/mehitharder) but hes in naxx and I get a critical error when I try and log in. I would open up a ticket but I don't care enough since I would just log on and sit around playing tetris.

wow, if completing the scepter line means you can speak draconic, i wanna do it even more now.

To make this even more bizarre, several people have reported that their gnome rogue characters on other servers, who existed before the patch, do not have the Draconic language option. I've seen no posts on the General or Bug Report forums, and I'm positive that someone would have posted about it by now.

This looks like it could be affecting only gnome rogues on our server.

I'm taking bunches of screenshots as a record of this, as I fear it'll be hotfixed without warning. Does anyone know some places where Draconic speech is seen in-game, other than the nether drakes in Shadowmoon? ))

Try both the Draconic for Dummies books in Stormwind and Undercity. I promise I won't attempt to kill any gnomes who sneak their way into UC for the purposes of this experiment, but I can't make guarantees about other players. >>

The dragons in Sunken Temple already use the universal 'no language' that everyone automatically understands, if I recall correctly.

I did red/blue parts on my alt of that chain and I don't have that skill applied.

Was it recently, because mag did it less than a week ago.

I turned the red shard in about 5 weeks ago, the blue in maybe a month ago.

Mag, can you select Draconic as something you can speak like you can with gnomish/common?

I will confirm that this character has 300 pts in Draconic as well. My horde rogue only speak orcish. Now to find something Draconic to translate...

"Draconic for Dummies is an in-game book written entirely in the language of Draconic. It is formed from 8 chapters, as part of a quest chain. The chapters will only drop if someone in the killing group has the quest Neutral [60] The Only Prescription. Only one item will drop per kill, not one per person with the quest. Book doesn't make you speak Draconic.

Chapters are Found as follows:

* Chapter I: Doctor Weavil on Alcaz Island of Dustwallow Marsh;
* Chapter II: Blasted Lands demons;
* Chapter III: Winterspring demons;

I have this same weird little glitch, and the most I've ever done for the scepter was up to Broodlord Lashlayer's head if I recall right. It's also fairly nifty how you can talk Draconic in gchat. :D
