The thing about the customs guy wanting to 'confiscate' any 'hate propaganda' the guy has is pretty spot on. It's very widespread nowadays and pretty sad to be honest. Not American at all if you ask me. His definition of hate propaganda would probably fit anything you could find in The New Yorker.

Wow, this kind of stuff makes me sick. It also makes me glad that I'm a libertarian. However, the "liquid explosives" idea is a joke. Looks to me like Tony and George might be trying to win a popularity contest.

Oh, and Tuhljin is currently my least favorite poster for rudeness, arrogance, and inaccuracy.

9/11 has made people stupid.

I have very little patience for stupidity and ignorance. I probably would've snapped if I were you.

If we only had more people to actively stand up or speak out against this, it could end.

Actually, there is a huge problem in Canada with the profileration of child porn being spread over the internet thru organized groups across the country. IStopping it has been one of the top priorities of the RCMP for the last few years. Police up here nowadays use any excuse possible to go thru anyone's computer if they can find a loophole to get away with it to try and find kiddy porn. Its sad, but they have saved a few exploited children (one right here in the Ottawa area) by using those tactics.

Q u o t e:

Although i do believe the jist of this story, I really have trouble believeing that an unemployed WoW player was so verbally superior to goverment officals. The way it sounds in your story, your totally ready with perfect lines for all there bumbling questions. Unless you make it a habit to get questioned by high ranking Goverment officials I really think you would have trouble doing anything but muttering out the truth, especially in a stressful situation like that one.

Sounds like you're assuming everyone behaves the same way you do. If this were me, I would take great offense to a handful of people with badges treating me like a criminal, and would react in an aggressive and unco-operative manner. No doubt, this would simply make things worse for me. None-the-less, I wasn't raised to have such a lack of self-respect that my own rights would so quickly be forgotten, and I imagine that having my freedom - even briefly - taken from me would bring out an animal response.

As someone said in this thread... the terrorists have, indeed, won.

Also, some people need to learn some ##%@ing respect. Goverment positions are about public service, not power tripping.

Well, truth be told, I disagree with some policies of that party. I'm not a fan of how they would ignore environmental issues.

Customs can get pretty cranky too...
My brother worked there for a few years and the pressure and idiots he had to deal with got to him. He had a few anger problems for a while.

Being a customs officer really sucks.

Awesome story, sorry that happened to ya mate.

For the record, it's not that astounding nor even wrong of them to do what they did. Considering that a massive terrorist plot to kill thousands was recently uncovered, where MP3 players and cellphones were to be used as the triggering device, I'm not suprised they acted this way at all.

It's stupid until they find a real bomb, then they are awesome eh? Let them protect you, that's their job folks. I don't quite get all the government hate. I mean, I do understand that most citizens find enough to be annoyed at in their local government that they feel the need to snipe at their leadership, but detectives, bomb squads, and other individuals who are trying to protect your lives shouldn't get hammered like they are.

Reminds me of the day Reagan was shot. I was in grade school at the time, and when they announced it, most of the children.. CLAPPED! They cheered. They were so confused by their parents negativity of the governemnt and the current president, they actually felt this was the right response.

Think for yourselves, don't be sheep. Unless someone poly's you, then it's ok.

I don't think anyone has a problem with the actions of the flight crew, clearly they did the right thing given the situation. But the bureaucratic silliness on the ground is when things become unresonable. Given the involvement of numerous employees and multiple government agencies, one could presume they could interview people in a more efficient manner than one at a time. Individually sure, but why only one person at a time? Why could there not be multiple individual interviews being run at the same time. Likewise the interviews could have been much shorter if they had not involved questions such as whether or not you would screw the person you had come to visit if you were intoxicated. That seems to go somewhat beyond just doing their jobs and protecting me.

It isn't government hate...but it's certainly some heavy government questioning.

This post probably didn't deliver.
