The article posted below is about a law suit against IGE, the biggest gold farming company in the world. The article mentions that IGE recently bought Allakhazam. Now knowing this, I will never use Allakhazam or Thottbot (which is depressing cause I liked Thottbot) again in an attempt to boycott.

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=77464

Paragraph from the article:

Q u o t e:
What's more, IGE has firmly lodged itself within the MMOG ecosystem - and has made impressive moves towards establishing its credibility with MMO players. Last year, the company acquired popular MMO website Allakhazam, which includes vast databases of statistics, information and guides for popular massively multiplayer titles. Other database sites routinely used by MMO players, such as World of Warcraft's Thottbot, also belong to IGE.

This shed's light on why Blizzard implemented the Armory.

Blizzard, keep up the good work. I know I look forward to the implementation of other aspects of Armory to help combat gold farming and to protect the realm economies.

Join the fight against gold farming!

Edit: WoWhead is apparently not owned by IGE and is dedicated against commercial gold farming (private farmers are of course expected lol) so there is still a viable alternative to Thottbot and Allakazham.

Edit: Changed title again, I know, this thread is just a chameleon.

I am a gold farmer with only one client: Me. I have never wasted my money on the purchase of in-game currency. The mount training prices are set high for a reason: Give you a goal. The purchase of gold devalues that sense of accomplishment.

This is from someone who is one of three players in his guild that has en epic flyer and the proficiency to ride it.

We, the World of Warcraft player base, need to be hostile towards any gold buyers in the game.

Farming gold for yourself is one thing buying gold from an outside company is another and it severely messes up the world economies.

Gold farming companies drive up prices and cause the more casual player to be forced into spending more money on a game just to enjoy it to the fullest extent.

Without gold farming companies present, do you really think the epic flying mount training would be so expensive?

Very old news .. and not entirely accurate.

IGE bought thotbott a LONG time ago, like years, while Alla was bought by the holding company that also owns IGE (it wasn't IGE buying Alla) way last year. And that point's moot because Alla was sold out of that group of companies some weeks ago.

And just what connection you seem to want to invent between this old news an the Armory is totally beyond me.

Wowhead is better than Thott or Alla on pure technical terms anyway, the fact that it is totally devoid of any relationship to gold sellers, now or in the past, and the owner has stated specifically that he will never sell the site to anyone related to gold selling, is just icing on the cake.

Be that as it may, I wish I had known earlier about who owned what. I personally don't want to support these companies in anyway shape or form.

Just thought I might try to help the community by providing information for the masses that might not have known.

That is why I use WoWHead. I even mentioned that to my guild. They were surprised on who pays for bandwidth at 'zam and Thot'.

No problem, it gives me an excuse to keep this thread bumped just a little higher! lol

I'm sure I'll let this die in a minute due to work but I thought I would try to enlighten the masses to the underlying forces of commercial gold farmers.

QFT. You'd have to be mad to support a site owned by goldfarmers who have no qualms 'letting' keyloggers 'slip their way' onto the pages.

Wowhead does indeed own. I've been running their looter mod for some time now, to help contribute to the site.

I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of a ruling class. Especially since I rule.

I have a feeling that the realm population sites are owned by IGE too. Anyone know for certain if they are?

EDIT: wowhead > all. The comments section alone is pure win. Unlike thottbot comments, which is little more than a cesspool.

As I understand is, WowInterface is owned by the same group of companies. I'm not sure about WarcraftRealms, though

Could you provide a source for this, please? I have seen nothing on this yet, and from what I understood, the holding company had planned to merge the databases of Thott and Allak, which means selling off Allak makes utterly no sense.

What Firala said. Even if you don't care about who owns which site, Wowhead is the cleanest, fastest database running.
