I'm hoping that with the arena gear upgrades it will be necessary to have the level 1 piece of gear before getting the level 2 piece of gear.

I'm thinking something like
Arena 1 piece costs 1185 pts
Arena 2 piece costs 450 + arena 1 piece traded in

I'm not sure if your current system allows you to have a "trade-in" cost, if it doesn't, maybe have a vendor that will give you an arena set token for your arena set piece.

Then you could have
Arena 2 piece costs 450pts + 1arena set token

If you are wondering why I am suggesting this type of system, it is because no one is going to spend their arena points on the level 1 stuff if they are eventually going to replace it with level 2 stuff (ie. you would eventually be throwing away all the arena points spent on the lvl 1 stuff).

That is, unless the level 2 stuff costs so many points that there is no way you can hope to obtain it all in a reasonable time. However, this isn't really a solution because when arena set 3 comes out, it will have to have the same type of exponential cost, and will be compeletely unattainable.

Anyone have any idea how it is going to work?

Why even play this game? This game is already the easiest game out, and you want it to be easier?

It isn't about it being easy. It is about making something useless (ie. level 1 arena gear) when there is no need to make it useless.

going by their track record i don't think they'll implement this. they don't like keeping the strong at the top, if anything they want new people to be able to come right in and buy season 2 stuff to compete with the season 1 pros.

nothing from pre-bc had value in post-bc, your warlord gear, tier 2/3, not even the legendary items got "upgraded." they want people to have a fresh start.

when they changed the honor system to points from ranks, the blue gear was all skipped by most people. they didn't make the warlord stuff hard to attain, it was like 6k for blue stuff 12 k for warlord epics, nobody stopped along the way to complete the blue set. if they wanted to keep it around the same difficulties it would have been 5k blue pieces 30k epic pieces, to where it might have been a decent investment to get the blue set first then start working for the epic stuff.

i'm guessing season 1 stuff will come down in price about 20%, and season 2 stuff will be 10-20% more expensive than current pieces. basically attempting to close the gap for people going into season 2.

That's right. That's why it's my understanding that there won't be any level 1 stuff anymore. I think that if you don't have it now, you won't ever be able to get it. Instead, you jump straight to the level 2 stuff. Next season, everyone jumps straight to the level 3 stuff.

Unless explicitly stated you can safely assume that no future PTR will include premade characters.

Not really. There are two ways it could turn out:

1.) The T2 arena pieces cost a T1 arena piece + a few hundred honor (as the OP has laid out.) People with T1 arena sets will get full T2 arena sets in a matter of weeks, maybe one week if they have enough points banked up.

2.) The T2 arena pieces cost a T1 arena piece + around the same as the original T1 piece (between 1-2k). Now only people who had the T1 set will ever be able to get the T2 set. The top arena teams from season one will stay on top, with no chance for anyone to ever catch up.

Either way is worse than just replacing the set with a new one.

It won't be required that you have the current season's set or piece to upgrade to the next season's set or piece. The season 2 items will take over the same point cost (or close to it) as the current season's, and the current season item point cost will lower. The current plan is to keep only the current and previous season's items available. Meaning that when moving to season 3, the season 1 items will no longer be available. This is of course subject to change.

There will be some amount of planning and forethought into when you buy an item as a new season approaches. If you want to wait until the next season comes around because those items will be better then feel free. It's not going to be a lucrative strategy though to wait a large amount of time just because they're better. You're not going to spend half the season capped because you know the next season's items are going to be better, right? Couple that with the fact that a new season doesn't guarantee that new items will be added, and you're taking a big gamble by not buying something unless you're really sure those new items are there and waiting for you on a specific date.

edit:

Questions: how much are the item's going to be reduced by? are the season 2 items going to be equivalent to t5 in looks (but in a different color?)

Is there just going to be armor, or added/updated weapons as well?

This is pretty stupid if you ask me. Allowing people to sit on a giant chunk of points then nab it all the day of the patch? Really, really dumb.

Thank you for the first response in a long time that actually could give us an idea what to do with our points, Drysc. Much appreciated info, albeit 8 days before the "alleged" end of the season :P

You can't stack arena points a lot, therefore won't be able to buy the entire set just by waiting for the patch.

What would be nice, as far as sets upgrading, is if y'all had the set bonuses function when made up of parts of different sets, for those whom can't actually run every week to farm enough points for a full set... the point gain system is already pretty ridiculously biased towards ideal team makeup + better gear, but that's another topic.

Wait, what?

So first you say that the new season will have new items, then you say the new season might not have new items. I'm confused.
