If you right click on the person's name in the chat window there will be a selection in the dropdown titled "Report Spam", this does a couple things. First it ignores any whispers, text, and mail from that user's account for your current session. Second it reports that user to our support department for spam, and they will investigate further and taken any action that's needed.

Please note that the Report Spam feature should ONLY be used to report spam, using it to report other types of harassment may result in your report failing to be processed properly. Please open a normal ticket for all non-spam related incidents.

Also, as of 2.1 trial accounts can no longer whisper others unless they have been whispered by that player first, or they are on that player's friends list. We obviously didn't want this information known before the patch was released.

Good change. At least we know now that accounts that are bothering us are regular accounts.

Other than the features don't work for the most part? The spam still appears on your screen, mistake no. 1.

The spam filter doesn't work, some people spammed 4 lines of text for 10 minutes on an auto macro in trade yesterday, nothing prevented that, mistake no. 2.

SpamSentry has somehow been nerfed in the patch, hoping for an update, and is no longer able to report, instead it now just deleted the report list and does nothing at all, mistake no. 3.

All in all a completely crappy solution.

The first two issues was why SpamSentry was so good.

How is a GM ticket not the proper channel?

...assuming you're comparing the current reporting method to Spamsentry.

Yes, that's the comparison. Sorry, "proper channels" wasn't the right term. I meant in the proper fashion. They want the spammers reported individually and promptly after they whisper you. That wasn't necessarily happening with Spam Sentry. Players could save them all up for one big report (presumably after the spammer had logged off) or they could just ignore them entirely, which is even worse.

Well now people can't blame trial accounts for spam....

But they still will.... because people are idiots.

Definitely a needed feature, Trial accounts still needed to be able to whisper in order to communicate with friends, but this method trashes any spamming from trial accounts.
I'm satisfied that the 2.1 features have significantly reduced spam, plus they have made it easier for Blizzard to consolidate reports against a single account thus allowing them to be banned faster.

Think Positively! Patch 2.1 will not kill World of Warcraft. Just like patch 2.0, and patch 1.12, and patch....

I noticed a SIGNIFICANT decrease in gold spams last night. I got one, compared to my usual 5-10.

SIGNIFICANTLY less people were able to play last night due to server and login issues.

What happens if somebody pokes a hole in the hat? Can the aliens broadcast waves narrow enough to get through the hole, or does the aluminum create sufficient interference regardless of area coverage?

Tee hee. You's funny. I honest to G-D do not understand people who think Blizzard is out to get them, and yet continue to give them money. It boggles my mind.

Q u o t e:
These changes weren't made for the customers. They were made to lower the "spam" that the GMs received from great add-ons like SpamSentry.

Note how they didn't bother to add the feature until add-ons like SpamSentry became popular even though the spam has been there for years now?

You see, it's okay for all of us to get spammed every few minutes with annoying gold selling/powerleveling spam... but the poor GMs shouldn't have to deal with receiving reports about it from everyone being affected (even if only a minute fraction of those receiving the whispers are reporting them). No, we can't have them being bothered. So what do you do? Put up a fake "report spam" option, have that fake report option temporarily ignore the reported individual, and call it a day.

That said, I hope the makers of SpamSentry fix whatever Blizzard did to break them -- an intentional move on Blizzard's part -- and continue to include the normal GM ticket report method. I, for one, am going to continue to "spam" the GMs in addition to using the Report Spam option. If I have to deal with it, they have to deal with it.

I understand you're upset but don't you think its possible that they did this simply so they could streamline getting the spammers taken care of more quickly?

If that means less "GM time" to take care of the problem isn't that a good thing?
