0. Wotlk beta client used when retail hits? 09/30/2008 08:22:46 AM PDT
When WoW first came out i was in the original beta. when it was released i was able to go into my beta folder, change the reamlist to what it is now and play from that without having to install from the cd's i had purchased. Course i had a small patch to download.
Anywho, the question is when Wotlk releases can i do the same and just change the realmlist.wtf to the live address and patch from there instead of installing from the CD/dvd ?
Thanks

Hi Udderkhaos,
Using non-retail versions may result in headaches on patch days. We've seen several for WoW Beta and TBC Beta. Use beta clients at your own risk.

So it was possible on the previous expansion but not adviced because of the file structure... will the beta client realmlist trick work for wrath of the lich king beta client? I will have a USA friend picking up a key for me but the CD's will not reach me until a week later.
I already regretted not being able to be on the launch event with TBC because Blizzard did not offer the downloadable retail client on release (and doesn't now as well as far as I can see on the official Blizz site).
Or... will the current retail version of the game (patch 3.0.3) still need an extra content install like the burning crusade did or is it possible to get to northrend without the need for the dvd that comes with the latest expansion?
