Tailoring 300 to 375 Guide by Highlander on EU-Terenas and Lobotomy on EU-Frostmane

300 - 325
Bolts of Netherweave (6 x Netherweave Cloth each)
(Seriously, your going to need about 430 bolts, so you may as well get the skill up's for it)

325 - 340
Bolts of Imbued Netherweave (3 x Bolts of Netherweave, 2 x Arcane Dust each)
(You'll need at least 90 bolts for later, so that should see you through to 340)

340 - 350
Netherweave Boots (6 x Bolts of Netherweave, 2 x Knothide Leather, 1 x Rune Thread each) x 10

350 - 360
Netherweave Tunic (8 x Bolts of Netherweave, 2 x Rune Thread each) x 10

360 - 375
Imbued Netherweave Tunic¹ (6 x Imbued Netherweave Bolts, 2 x Netherweb Spider Silk, 1 x Rune Thread each) x 15

¹Pattern is sold by Arrond in Shadowmoon Valley in limited supply. You need to have Scryers rep to be able to talk to him or be neutral with both Scryers and Aldors, but they are not BoP, so if your aligned with the Aldors, get someone else to buy them for you.

N.B. If your an enchanter, disenchant all the Netherweave Robes and Boots for Arcane Dust. If your not, get a friend or guild mate who is to do it for you. This will save you some money on Arcane Dust. Thanks to Chiyochan on EU-Bladefist for pointing this out :o)

Approximate Materials Required

2880 x Netherweave Cloth
210 x Arcane Dust
30 x Netherweb Spider silk
45 x Rune Thread
20 x Knothide Leather

Thanks Cacho, I appreciate it, <3. Hopefully those other 2 will delete the replies... Unfortunately, it looks like the threads will not slide back into place, which really sucks.. I was hoping it'd only be 2 page,s -.-.

Introduction:

Blacksmithing can be a satisfying and rewarding profession, particularly if you enjoy selling your own wares and take pride in seeing your own and other players’ characters wearing gear with your name on them as the crafter. It is, however, an expensive and time-consuming profession to master. It will cost you several hundred golds in materials and training fees to reach 300 skill in Blacksmithing, and much more to reach 375. See my Raising Blacksmith Skill guide below for an optimal plan for advancing your Blacksmithing skill with minimial use of materials. Blacksmiths can make a wide variety of weapons, mail armor, plate armor, and other useful items. See my lists of plans below for full details on all plans, sorted several ways. See also my summaries of factions and special vendors that provide Blacksmithing plans.

Until you do reach 375 skill the craft is likely to be a money sink if you pursue it intensely. Once you do reach 375, and no longer have to worry about skill increases, you can make a tidy profit from Blacksmithing, but do not expect to get wealthy with the craft unless you are fortunate in the rare plans you learn and your local market. Blacksmithing is best approached as a craft that can assist you and your friends with gear while leveling up and provide satisfaction to you as a crafter. If all you want to do is make money, I advise you to take up two gathering crafts instead.

Complementary Professions:

Blacksmithing is best paired with Mining, enabling you to mine much of the materials that you will need for your Blacksmithing. If you have enough income to allow you to simply buy your materials from other players then you can replace mining with another profession. Engineering can assist your character and will use much of the same materials as Blacksmithing. Enchanting can be used to provide Enchanted Thorium, to disenchant uncommon or rare items you crafted solely to increase your Blacksmithing skill, and to enchant the gear you have crafted to increase the value or usefulness of the gear. Skinning can provide the leather used for many plans. Alchemy can provide potions used in some plans as well as those useful to your characters.

Rank, Skill & Level Requirements:

Apprentice: Blacksmithing can be learned from a Journeyman Blacksmith Trainer at level, allowing you to advance to skill 75. Journeyman Blacksmith Trainers can be found in the towns and capitol cities in the every starting zxone except Teldressil, which has no metal deposits (being a giant tree) and thus the Night Elves must take the boat to Auberdine to learn Blacksmithing and Mining. You will learn most of your plans from your trainers in the early stages, but as you rise in skill more and more of the plans will be dropped loot items or will be obtained via quests or by raising your reputation with various factions. Alliance Apprentice Blacksmiths can obtain their first blacksmithing quest from Tormus Deepforge at the Great Forge in Ironforge. (For details on all Blacksmithing quests see my summaries below.)

You should always try to advance your Blacksmithing skill enough to keep it at or above 25 plus five times your level. This will enable you to equip new items you learn at their minimum level for maximum usefulness. In general the minimum level required to equip a crafted item is equal to the skill required to craft the item divided by 5 less 5. A skill of 75 allows for the crafting of items with minimum required level of 10.

Journeyman: At level 10 and a skill of at least 50 you can pay an Expert Blacksmith Trainer to promote you to Journeyman Blacksmith, allowing you to advance to a skill pf 150. (Note that the rank of the trainer is always one level higher than the rank they promote you to.) Expert and Artisan Blacksmith Trainers are found in the capitol cities (except Darnassus). If you have skilled up your Blacksmithing as I suggested above, you will reach skill 75 at level 10 and be ready for promotion to Journeyman. A skill of 150 allows for the crafting of items with minimum required level of 25. Alliance Journeyman Blacksmiths get their second blacksmithing quest from Tormus Deepforge at the Great Forge in Ironforge.

Expert: At level 20 and a skill of at least 125 you can pay an Artisan Blacksmith Trainer at a capitol city to promote you to Expert Blacksmith, enabling you to advance to a skill of 225. (At level 20 you should be at skill 125 for optimal advancement.) Horde Expert Blacksmiths can obtain four blacksmithing quests from Orokk Omosh in Orgrimmar.

Artisan: At level 35 and a skill of at least 200 you can pay the Master Blacksmith Trainer in Booty Bay to promote you to Artisan Blacksmith, enabling you to advance to a skill of 300. (At level 35 you should be at skill 200 for optimal advancement.)

Mithril Order: At level 40 and skill 210 you become eligible for the 7 Mithril Order quests. For the Alliance these begin with Hank the Hammer in Stormwind and for the Horde they begin with Aturk the Anvil in Orgrimmar.

Armorsmith & Weaponsmith: At skill 200 you can make a choice between armor and weapon specialties. For the Alliance you see Mylor Sunderfury in the Great Forge in Ironforge. For the Horde you see Kralthok Moltenfist in Orgrimmar. Once you have made that choice, the appropriate nearby questgiver will offer you his specialty quest once you are level 40. Once you have completed that quest you gain the specialty. You can pay a fee to the questgiver to later unlearn that specialty.

Master Weaponsmith: At skill 250 and level 50 a Weaponsmith can travel to the bank in Everlook town in Winterspring and learn one of the three weapon subspecialties to become a Master Axesmith, Hammersmith, or Swordsmith. (No fee or quest needed.) You can pay a fee to the specialist to later unlearn that weapon specialty.

Imperial Plate Armor: At skill 265 and level 50 any Blacksmith can do the Imperial Plate Armor quest turnins offered by the Thorium Brotherhood in Gadgetzan, Tanaris.

Master Blacksmtih: At skill 275 and level 50 a Blacksmith can visit the Grandmaster Blacksmtih in Honor Hold or Thrallmar in Hellfire Peninsula to become a Master Blacksmith able to reach 375 skill.

Willhelm's Guide to Raising Blacksmith Skill 1-375

You will want to equip yourself and your friends as your skill rises. Study the lists of weapons and armors you will be able to make, and the materials they require, in the summaries I have posted on page one of this thread at http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-professions&t=1&p=1

If you keep your skill at 25 plus five times your level then you will always be able to make items you can equip at their minimum level. Outside of the items you make because you want to, or to fulfill the Blacksmith quests, there are a series of minimum-material or minimum-cost items you can make to advance your skill, mostly consisting of stone, misc. items, and some low-material armor items.

Apprentice Blacksmithing Path:

This is done mostly with stone, saving your copper and bronze bars until later except when you need to equip yourself or your friends or clients. Make Rough Sharpening Stones (turns green at 15 and grey at 55) until you reach 25 and learn Rough Grinding Stones. (Save and use those Sharpening Stones as a combat buff.) Make Rough Grinding Stones (turns yellow at 45 and green at 65) until you reach skill 65, keeping them for use later in making other items. Make Coarse Sharpening Stones or Coarse Whetstones until you reach 75 and are a Journeyman. Copper items useful as skillups include Copper Bracers (2 copper bars, green at 20), Copper Chain Pants (4 copper bars, green at 50) and Copper Chain Belt (6 copper bars, green at 75).

Journeyman Blacksmithing Path:

At 75 you learn Coarse Grinding Stone, which are yellow when learned. Make those until they turn grey at 100 and save them for making further items. Turn any tin and copper into bronze bars but save them. Make Silver Rods until they turn green at 105 (and sell them to Enchanters) then make Rough Bronze Leggings (with your saved bronze bars) until 125. At 125 you learn Heavy Grinding Stone. Make these until they turn grey at 150 and keep them for making other items. If you are able to learn the Deadly Bronze Poniard dropped plan at 125 then you can make and sell it at a profit until it turns green at 155 and grey at 185. The Patterned Bronze Bracer (green at 150) is required for a Badlands quest. At 145 you learn to make your first rare (blue) item, the Shining Silver Breastplate (green at 175) which sells well.

Expert Blacksmithing Path:

Beginning at 150, make Iron Buckles, until they turn grey at 155, and then Golden Rods until they turn grey at 160. Golden skeleton keys are green when learned and grey at 170. You may want to equip yourself and friends with the Green Iron Set and that will provide some skillups. If you are able to learn the Iron Shield Spike plan at 150 then you can make and sell these at a good profit until they turn yellow at 180 up to grey at 210. Another profitable drop is the Iron Counterweight, green at 190 and grey at 210. At 200 you learn Solid Grinding Stone so make those until they turn grey at 210 and save for later use. To get from 210 to 225, make Golden Scale Bracers to 215, then make Steel Plate Helms to 225. You will also be equipping yourself with the Golden Scale armor set and the Moonsteel Broadsword is required for a quest in Duskwallow Marsh. A number of expert weapons and armors are saleable, including the rare Green Iron Hauberk at 180 (green at 205, grey at 230).

Artisan Blacksmithing Path:

At 225 make Steel Plate Helms (yellow at 235, green at 245), if iron is easier to get. If mithril is easier to get then make Mithril Scale Bracers (yellow at 235) or (if you can get the plan) Mithril Shield Spikes (these sell steadily and turn yellow at 235 and green at 245). At 235, if you can get the plan, make Mithril Spurs to 250 (turns yellow at 255, green at 265). At 250 make Dense Grinding Stones until they turn grey at 260 (save for later use). For full details on 235-260 see my summary below.

The Heavy Mithril and Ornate Mithril armor items are good for their level, so you can also skill up some on making the mithril items for the Mithril Order quests. The Ornate Mithril Boots are popular with warriors for their remove root effect and they (and the Ornate Mithril Helm) turn green at 265. You can go back to Mithril Spurs (which are readily saleable) until they turn grey at 275 and also make the Imperial Plate Belt and Shoulders at 265, Bracers at 270, and then Helm and Boots at 295. (The Imperial Plate Armors are salable, unlike the Thorium and Radiant resist-all armors.) If you are relearning Blacksmithing and do not have access to the Imperial Plate plans then use the Radiant and Thorium armors. If Thorium is hard to come by then consider the skill 260 specialty rare BoP leggings or weapons, which use Mithril and sell to vendors or disenchant well. For full details on 260-300 see my summary below.

Specialty Path:

As an Armorsmith or Weaponsmith you can skill up making the items for your specialty Quest. Be sure to make them as soon as you learn them, and save the items to turn in for the quest, so you get your skillups. You can skill up with rare armors such as Truesilver Gauntlets until they turn green at 245 (or grey at 265) and Truesilver Breastplate until it turns green at 265 (or grey at 285). You can also gain skillups with rare weapons such as the Shatterer, Phantom Blade, Blight and Truesilver Champion, as these are also saleable.

Master Blacksmithing Path:
You become a Master Blacksmith (and Master Miner) in either Honor Hold or Thrallmar in Hellfire Peninsula, once the expansion releases, allowing you to rise to skill 375. If you can gather extra thorium before going to Outlands, the best items to stockpile for and use to level up initially, as they are saleable, will be the Imperial Plate Armors, Elemental Sharpening Stones, Darkrune Armors, Ironvine Armors, and Enchanted Thorium Blades. These can take you as high as 325.

Once you get to Outlands, mine or buy Fel Iron and make Fel Whetstones and Fel Iron Rods to 310 (the rods sell for a profit). (For all of the items with only a 10-point range until grey, that tenth point has a very low chance of a skillup, so you will do better to get that last point with something else.) The uncommon Fel Iron Chain and Plate sets and Fel iron weapons can then also help get you to 325, although their saleability is iffy.

At 325 make Lesser Rune of Warding until they go grey at 335 (you can sell them or use them yourself). If you can get the primals, you can make the rare Adamantite Plate Bracers and Gloves, as they should be saleable, and your specialty rare breasplate or 1H & 2H weapons. Otherwise make Fel Iron Breastplates to 340. At 340 get the plan for Lesser Rune of Shielding and make it to 350, when it goes grey. At 350 (and Honored with Cenarian Expedition) you can make Adamantite Whetstones, Sharpening Stones, and Rods to 360, also your skill 350 specialty BoP epic weapons or armor to get the last point or two to 360.

At 360 (and Honored with Aldors or Scryers) you can make the rare Aldors' Shadow Guard set or the Scryers' Enchanted Adamantite Armor Set to get to 365 for the world-dropped epic plans. To get to 375 you have a mix of whatever epics you can make, continuing with the Shadow Guard or Enchanted Adamantite sets, and the BoP World Drop rare plate sets: Ragesteel, Khorium ward, and Faith in Felsteel. For full details on 360-375 see my summary below.

Comments:

There is no one best path up because it depends on which dropped plans you get ahold of, which specialty you take, and which items you can make for guildmates or sell that give skillups, which will vary by guild and server. It also depends on whether you learn every plan going up or only the bare minimum because you are trying for a truly lowest cost or fastest power-leveling runup to 375. The path I outlined is a fairly optimal approach but it does include obtaining some dropped plans at the right times.

The faster you try to skill up the more it will cost you because you are likely going to have to vendor much of it. The market can only absorb so much of any one item. Whenever possible, spread out the items you make over time or make a variety so that you do not overload the market. If you want to minimize cost by selling your items, look at the Auction House to see which desirable green or blue items that give skillups are lacking or in short supply and go for them, bypassing those that are in large supply already. Remember that an item that costs 2 g to make is better than one that costs 1 g to make if you can sell the first for a profit but the second sells for a loss.

An example of this is the Imperial Plate Armor set, all of which (except bracer) can be sold for a profit while the cheaper Thorium or Radiant armor items use less materials but do not sell.

Another way to help yourself is to have one of your characters be an Enchanter and disenchant any green item that won't sell, since you can usually then sell the resulting reagents for more than the vendor would pay for the original item. This can often make it better to make more costly green items rather than the less costly white items, since you cannot disenchant the white items.

You can see an itemized listing version of this skillup guide at http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=102789457&pageNo=1&sid=1#2

Blacksmithing Skillups from 235 to 260

The optimal skillup path is to obtain the dropped Mithril Spurs plan (4 Mithril Bars, 3 Solid Grinding Stones) and make those to 250. Then make Dense Grinding Stones to 260 (4 Dense Stone) and then Mithril Spurs again to 265. Then make Imperial Plate Belts (10 Thorium Bars, 6 Rugged Leather ) to 270, Imperial Plate Bracers (12 Thorium Bars) to 295, and Imperial Plate Boots (18 Thorium Bars) to 300. However, the Mithril Spurs plan is often hard to come by, so here are the alternatives:

Uncommon Items:

Mithril Scale Bracers [215, yellow at 235, green at 245] 106 AC, +6 Stamina, +7 Spirit, +10 Defense, L 38 (Uncommon)
- 8 Mithril Bars
Mithril Shield Spike [215, yellow at 235, green at 245]

- 16 Mithril Bars, 1 Black Pearl, 4 Shadowgems, 1 Solid Grinding Stone, 2 Thick Leather (This is required for the Way of the Weaponsmith quest.)

The Heavy Mithril and Ornate Mithril plate armors are good for their level and may sell:

Blacksmithing Skillups from 260 to 300:

This is a common problem region for folks skilling up Blacksmithing now. The optimal path in terms of materials is to make Mithril Spurs to 265, then Imperial Plate Belts and Shoulders to 270 followed by Imperial Plate Bracers to 295 then finishing with Imperial Plate Helms and Chests. If you do not have access to them (as is the case for those relearning Blacksmithing) then your best bets are the dropped Thorium Armor and Radiant Armor plans (if you can get your hands on some of those), Arcanite Rods & Arcanite Skeleton Keys, and Thorium Shield Spikes. Arcanite Rods and Thorium Shield Spikes may sell for a profit on your server, making them a good choice. Some of the Dark Iron plans are also possible, such as Dark Iron Shoulders, since Dark iron is less desired now and often left alone by folks looking for thorium. Also look at the skill 260 specialty rare BoP weapons and armors, as they use mithril instead of thorium. If thorium is really hard to get then they may be the answer.

Here are the plans to look at as alternatives to the Imperial Plate Armors:

Radiant Armor:
Radiant Circlet [295] 309 AC, +18 Frost & Shadow resists, L54 (Uncommon)(Uncommon drop)
- 18 Thorium Bars, 4 Heart of Fire

- 14 Thorium Bars, 4 Heart of Fire
Radiant Gloves[285] 201 AC, +18 Frost & Shadow Resists, L 52 (Uncommon)(Uncommon drop)
- 18 Thorium Bars, 4 Heart of Fire
Radiant Breastplate [270] 293 AC, +16 Frost & Shadow Resists, L 49 (Uncommon)(Uncommon drop)
- 18 Thorium Bars, 2 Heart of Fire, 1 Star Ruby
Radiant Belt [260] 189 AC, +12 Frost & Shadow Resists, L 47 (Uncommon)(Uncommon drop)
- 10 Thorium Bars, 2 Heart of Fire

Thorium Plate Armor: (Resist All)

Blacksmithing Skillups from 360 to 375

Blacksmithing hits a wall at 360 as the last inexpensive skillups (Adamantite Whetstones, Sharpening Stiones, and Rods) go grey at 360. To advance to 375 you can get a couple of points by making your specialty BoP epic items, and at 365 you have the option of making the nifty epics if you can get the plan and materials, but primarily you will wind up making items from the various rare armor sets, both from factions and from BoP world drops. BLACKSMITHING QUESTS

Low-level quests:

There are 2 low-level Blacksmith quests for the Alliance given by Tormus Deepforge in the Great Forge in Ironforge:
Supplying the Front (Copper Chain Vest) http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=96
He also gives a second quest that is not needed for the Mithril Order quests but is worth doing:
Gearing Redridge (Ironforge Breastplate) http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=353

For the Horde there are 5 lower level quests:

From Orokk Omosh in Orgrimmar: (Skill 160 required)
On Iron Pauldrons (Barbaric Iron Shoulders)http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=2639
Barbaric Battlements (Barbaric Iron Breastplate) http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=2559
Horns of Frenzy (Barbaric Iron Helm) http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=1977
Trampled Under Foot (Barbaric Iron Boots) http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=2902

And also from Aturk the Anvil in Orgrimmar:
The Old Ways http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=3188

The Mithril Order Quests

Here are the steps of the Mithril Order quests for the Alliance:

1) First make sure you have completed the low-level copper supply blacksmith quest given by Tormus Deepforge in Ironforge.

2) You need to be level 40 with blacksmith skill 210. I recommend you also first promote to Artisan via the Master Blacksmith in Booty Bay.

3) Go to Stormwind to the forge tent in the Dwarven District. Hank the Hammer of the Mithril Order is standing off in a corner. He offers you the initial quest to make Golden Scale Bracers in order to learn how to make Golden Scale Gauntlets. The Origins of Smithing http://www.thottbot.com/?q=2463

4) When you complete that quest he gives you a wearable trinket as a token, the Mithril Insignia (http://www.thottbot.com/?i=12838) and sends you down to Booty Bay to talk to McGavan, who is standing outside the Blacksmith shop on the upper level. In Search of Galvan http://www.thottbot.com/?q=2464

5) McGavan in turn directs you to Galvan the Ancient out at a camp just south of the Ogre city in the middle of the eastern hills in Stranglethorn Vale. The Mithril Order http://www.thottbot.com/?q=2980

6) Galvan gives you three quests to learn the first three Ornate Mithril plans.
Smelt On, Smelt Off (Ornate Mithril Pants) http://www.thottbot.com/?q=1183
The Art of the Imbue (Ornate Mithril Shoulders) http://www.thottbot.com/?q=2946
The Great Silver Deceiver (Ornate Mithril Gloves[/b] http://www.thottbot.com/?q=1182

7) Then he sends you on to Trenton Lighthammer in Gadgetzan in Tanaris.
Galvan's Finest Pupil http://www.thottbot.com/?q=1479

8) Speak to him again to get the first Blacksmtih trinket, the Signet of Expertise http://www.thottbot.com/?i=4030 which summons the Hammer of Expertise http://www.thottbot.com/?i=9947 which will most likely be your first epic weapon: Main-Hand Mace, 54-101, Speed 2.10, 36.9 dps (lasts for one hour).

9) Trenton gives you three more quests:
The Mithril Kid (Ornate Mithril Breastplate) http://www.thottbot.com/?q=1467
The World at Your Feet (Ornate Mithril Boots) http://www.thottbot.com/?q=1470
A Good Head on Your Shoulders (Ornate Mithril Helm) http://www.thottbot.com/?q=1471

10) After completing the third quest, speak again to Trenton and he gives you back that original token, now changed into a useful trinket, the Glimmering Mithril Insignia http://www.thottbot.com/?i=4593

For the Horde, Ox of the Mithril Order in Orgrimmar sends you to see McGavan in Booty Bay with Booty Bay or Bust http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?q=3236

You need to have completed the earlier Horde blacksmithing quests and be level 40 (and probably skill 215).

The Imperial Plate Armor Quests:

The seven items in this set are obtained from Derotain Mudsipper, the Thorium Brotherhood agent in Gadgetzan, Tanaris. He stands next to Trenton at the forge. He offers the quest "A Blue Light Bargain" if you are at least level 50 and skill 265. This is an agreement to sell you the plans for thorium bars. If you accept that quest you get 250 Reputation with the Thorium Brotherhood and he then offers all 7 plans to you at once as separate one-time quests by turning in from 10 to 30 Thorium Bars for each plan. Each quest provides 250 Reputation points with the Thorium Brotherhood, for a total of 2000 Reputation points (depending on race and level) for the complete set .

Here is a list of how many Thorium Bars you have to trade to get each plan:

Willhelm, I would add that into the actual guide, but it's too long. So, what I think I shall do is make a link to your guide (the replies) in the main post as I did the others. Sound good?

Specialization Quests for Armor or Weapons:

If you have never had a blacksmithing specialty before, then at skill 200 the Artisan Blacksmith Trainer will offer you information on specializing in armor as an Armorsmith or weapons as a Weaponsmith, and send you to another NPC nearby to make that choice. For the Alliance, the Artisan Blacksmith Trainer is in the Great Forge in Ironforge and he send you to Myolor Sunderfury who makes the actual offer to you. For the Horde this is Kralthok Moltenfist in Orgrimmar. Once you make your choice he endows you as a candidate for either Armorsmith or Weaponsmith. When you are level 40 the appropriate specialty trainer nearby will offer you the quest for that specialty. You do not need to be Artisan to get the quest but you will need Artisan to complete it if you mmake your own items.

The Art of the Armorsmith http://www.thottbot.com/?q=1185
To become an Armorsmith, you must turn in 4 Ornate Mithril Helms, 2 Ornate Mithril Boots, 1 Ornate Mithril Breastplate. To get this quest requires level 40, and Blacksmith skill 200, Artisan Blacksmith. You will want to complete the Mithril Order quests if you want to make the required items yourself, although you can get the quest and just buy the items. To complete it by yourself you will need to be skill 245 since that is needed to make the Ornate Mithril Helm & Boots (unelss you get someone else to make them). For the Alliance it is given by Grumnus Steelshaper in Ironforge after you have made the choice of armorsmithing. For the Horde it is Okothos Ironrager in Orgrimmar. The complete list of Armormith plans are given in my List of Blacksmith Plans.

The Way of the Weaponsmith http://www.thottbot.com/?q=1239
To become a Weaponsmith, you must turn in: 4 Moonsteel Broadswords, 4 Massive Iron Axes, 2 Heavy Mithril Axes, and 2 Big Black Maces. This quest requires level 40 and Blacksmith skill 200 and Artisan Blacksmith to get. You do not need to have done any of the Mithril order quests. To complete it by yourself you will need to be skill 230 since that is needed to make the Big Black Mace. For the Alliance it is given by Ironus Coldsteel in Ironforge after you have made the choice of weaponsmithing. For the Horde it is given by Borgosh Corebender. The complete list of Weaponsmith plans are given in my List of Blacksmith Plans.

Weapon Specialist Quests
At level 50 and skill 250, Weaponsmiths will have a chance to further specialize as either a Master Axesmith, Hammersmith or Swordsmith. The three specialist trainers are in a large building in Everlook (just to the left as you enter) in Winterspring (which requires a difficult run through the tunnel from Fellwood to get to in order to get the flight point in back of Everlook). Each teaches a different weapon focus via a text option and also gives a weapon quest, which are now open to all Blacksmiths. These are difficult quests in level 55-60 instances so you will need a 5-man group to succeed unless you are close to 70.

Blazing Rapier:
Seril Scourgebane assigns the quest Corruption - http://www.thottbot.com/?q=2965 In order to complete the swordsmithing quest you have to open the Corruption plans by the first Ziggurat on the undead side of Stratholme, just after you fight the abominations. The Baroness is at the top of the stairs. The plans are up against the wall directly to the right of the Ziggurat's stairs. When you click on them an elite named mob, the Black Guard Swordsmith, spawns that you have to kill and loot an item from, the Insignia of the Black Guard. Return that item to Seril Scourgebane in Everlook, Winterspring and you're done. Stratholme is a difficult instance for a 5-Man group at level 60, let alone lvl50. The quest reward is the plans for Blazing Rapier and the Corruption plans you picked up.

Enchanted Battle Hammer:
Lilith the Lithe assigns the quest Sweet Serenity - http://www.thottbot.com/?q=4892 Travel to Stratholme and kill the Crimson Hammersmith. Recover the Crimson Hammersmith's Apron and return it to Lilith. You summon the Crimson Hammersmith by looking the plans for Serentiy on the floor. The quest reward is the plans for Enchanted Battle Hammer and the Serentiy plans you looted.

Dawn's Edge:
Kilram assigns the quest Snakestone of the Shadow Huntress - http://www.thottbot.com/?q=1696 Travel to Blackrock Spire and slay Shadow Hunter Vosh'gajin. Recover Vosh'gajin's Snakestone and return it to Kilram. She's the 2nd boss in. After you go past the cave with the ogres (and the ogre boss), a bit further down you can branch off into a kind of temple looking building filled with trolls. The shadowhunter is up on the top floor of this building. The 3rd boss (another troll) is down the bottom. The quest reward is the plans for Dawn's Edge and your Axesmith icon.

Switching Blacksmithing Focus:

As of 2.0.3, you learn and unlearn Weaponsmithing and Armorsmithing in the smithing areas in Ironforge or Orgrimmar. You learn or unlearn weapon specialties (Axesmith, Hammersmith, Swordsmith) in the bank in Everlook in Winterspring. The fee to unlearn Axesmith, Hammersmith, Swordsmith or Armorsmith is: 25 g through level 50, 50 g levels 51-65, 100 g levels 66-70. The fee to unlearn Weaponsmith is 5 g through level 65, 10 g levels 66-70. When you unlearn a specialty your skill does not change and you only lose the specialty-specific plans for BoP items that require the specialty to equip.

To change between two weapon specialties go to Everlook and unlearn one specialty and then learn the other specialty (no fee, no quest).

To change from Armorsmith to Weaponsmith, go to the Armorsmith NPC (in Ironforge or Orgrimmar) and pay to unlearn Armorsmithing. Then choose weapons instead of armor (with Myolor Sunderfury in Ironforge or Kralthok Moltenfistin Orgrimmar) and you will become a Weaponsmith (no fee, no quest). To choose a weapon specialty go to Everlook and speak to the appropriate NPC (no fee, no quest).

To change from Weaponsmith Specialist to Armorsmith go to Everlook and pay to unlearn your weapons specialty, then go to the Weaponsmith Trainer (Ironforge or Orgrimmar) and pay to unlearn Weaponsmith. Now choose Armor instead of Weapons (with Myolor Sunderfury in Ironforge or Kralthok Moltenfistin Orgrimmar) and you will become an Armorsmith (no fee, no quest).
