  • 0. "Brood of Ducklings" Pet, Quest & Achievement   09/25/2009 05:59:04 PM PDT

I know that there are many players who love vanity pets, mounts, and other fun flavor items within the game. And, this suggestion is for an entirely new vanity pet, its quest, and a small 10pt. achievement.

Companion Pet: Brood of Ducklings - Right Click to Summon and Dismiss a Brood of Ducklings That Will Trail After You. *Binds when Picked Up. (Three ducklings would follow after you.)

Quest Giver: Breanni <Pet Supplies> in Dalaran.

Quest: "If It Quacks Like a Duck.."

Breanni is concerned with the lack of waterfowl she's been seeing in Azeroth. While, there are plenty of other fowl to be found, such as chickens, turkeys, and several types of land birds, she's growing concerned that she rarely sees any ducks or geese.

She's begun doing extensive research involving migration patterns, but is in need of your help for a daunting task. Breanni would like you to travel the world of Azeroth and fish up 3 separate baby ducklings, for her. To better aid her in her research, she will need one duckling from three different parts of the world -- One from the pools of the Eastern Kingdoms, one from the pools of Kalimdor, and a 3rd from those of Northrend. This will not be an easy feat, as the ducks of Azeroth seem to be few and far between.

Once you've collected all 3 ducklings, return them to Breanni in Dalaran and she will reward you with your very own "Brood of Ducklings" companion pet.

Achievement: "All Your Ducks In a Row" - Obtain the Brood of Ducklings vanity pet from Breanni.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It could definitely use some polishing and tweaking, but I thought that to get a vanity pet this cool, it would warrant a semi-difficult quest, as well as a small achievement. Each duckling could have a drop rate of 1/100 or maybe even higher. That way, it would be something that you'd definitely have to work towards, similar to the baby raptor pets and the Sea Turtle mount.

Edit: Just to clarify, similar to the Sea Turtle mount, you would not need to have a high level fishing skill, to fish up and obtain these ducklings needed for the quest. You could have a very low fishing skill, possibly even as low as 1, to fish up each duckling, regardless of pool level.

And, as to not alienate lower levels, this could always simply become an achievement based reward, rather than a quest reward. And, be changed and altered to better benefit all levels. And, I would certainly be up for Outland being added to the list of places to fish up a duckling!

I'd love to hear feedback and hope so much that something like this could be implemented in the future!

Anyways, I'm always for fun, new non combat pets. Especially if they have a new animation or are from a quest and not some stupidly long grinding spree.

Chance on hit stuns shouldn't be allowed in arenas. Real life doesn't have chances. Right, Impact Mages?

you realize that only those with Fishing could get this, right? And not everyone has the patience or time to level fishing just for a single pet.

Yeah, that's actually part of why there would be an achievement for it. Similar to the turtle, it would be something that if you wanted it, you'd unfortunately have to have fishing. But, that doesn't mean that you would have to have max fishing or even a high fishing skill, for that matter. Because, I love fishing, but I know that many people do not.

As far as I know, you can fish up the Sea Turtle with as low of a fishing skill as 1. Now, that doesn't mean that while you're fishing the pools of Northrend that you won't be getting tons and tons of junk items, because you certainly would. However, as far as I know, it doesn't detract from your chances of fishing up the Sea Turtle mount.

This quest would work the same way. You would only need a fishing skill requirement of 1 to fish up the baby ducklings, regardless of the pool level. However, if you are fishing from a high level pool, you will get one of two things - junk items, the baby ducklings, or if you're in Northrend, the Sea Turtle mount would be a third item.

Hope that kind of helps and clears up any misunderstanding for you. I'll be sure to edit my post and make note of that. Thanks a bunch for your feedback!

I only agree with this post, if the Pet Duck were to Waddle and Randomly Quack, every so often. Also, in addition, the pet Duck would have to do a Ruffle, every so often, with his beak, like most birds do.

Oh, but your a Quack to suggest a 1/100 drop rate for the ducklings tho...

Actually, it would be three ducklings following you around. So, how's that for awesome? :D And, I'm quite sure that the designers would make them very cute and with sweet animations like the ones you described.

Also, the reason for the 1/100 drop is to make the quest semi-difficult and a task worthy of obtaining such a neat pet and the small achievement that would follow. It's supposed to be similar to the Sea Turtle Mount and the baby raptor pets that are available right now. There are 8 baby raptor hatchlings. One that you can buy from Breanni, four which are 100% drops from rare Raptors around the world, and three which are rare drops from other raptors. Two of those rare drops (the Razzashi and Deviate) both are speculated to have a drop rate of 1/100. Whereas, the last one, the Gundrak hatchling, is speculated to have a drop of 1/1000. So, that's my basis for the 1/100 drop rate.

That doesn't mean that if the rate was changed, if this pet ever got implemented, that I would mind one bit. I'd be thrilled to have this pet and I definitely wouldn't mind it being easier to obtain. But, this is just a suggestion and my thoughts on how it could all work.

Hope that helps, thanks very much for your thoughts!

Thanks very much! I know just how you feel. Although, I don't mind the grind that's needed for some pets and mounts, I certainly enjoy the ones that come with quests and/or achievements. I think it's really fun and unique.

Yeah, I agree. There's the magical crawdad (via Mr. Pinchy) and the giant sewer rat, both of which you fish up. Then, there's the strandcrawler and baby croc pets that you get as rewards from doing fishing dailies. And, although that's a nice amount, I think another fishing pet sounds great and I think the idea of three little ducks that waddle and follow you around sounds just precious!

Thanks so much, everyone!

Lol, you and me both! I could never resist working for a pet that gives me three baby ducks. I really hope something like this could be added to the game. Thank you so much for your thoughts, guys! <3
