Gotta give this guy credit for not mincing words...looks like more micro-transactions to come! I know profit is the main goal of any business, but this guy is gung ho aboot it.
Q u o t e: When he wasn't promoting the company's games or technology, Kotick was celebrating its laser-like focus on the bottom line. He pointed to changes he implemented in the past as being particularly beneficial, such as designing the employee incentive program so it, "really rewards profit and nothing else."
"You have studio heads who five years ago didn't know the difference between a balance sheet and a bed sheet who are now arguing allocations in our CFO's office pretty regularly," Kotick said.
He later added, "We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games."
If that sounds like it would create a corporate culture that isn't all sunshine and hugs, then it's "mission accomplished" for Kotick. The executive said that he has tried to instill into the company culture "skepticism, pessimism, and fear" of the global economic downturn, adding, "We are very good at keeping people focused on the deep depression."

The point of the OP wasn't that it wasn't believable, it was just how blunt and honest he was aboot it.
It is not common to see such unabashed greed in a public statement. The fact that he was speaking at a convention for bankers makes it slightly understandable, but eesh.

Uhh yea, how is this a suprise?
Capitalism* 101.
*lolicantspell
The basic theory behind our entire economic system (/mode of production) is that what makes money is also the right thing to do. Putting our resources where they make the post profit = putting them where they will be of the most use and create the most utility.
Yes it's dumb and yes it is obviously only helpful to a point and not to the extent we have implimented it. BUT IF YOU DON'T LIKE CAPITALISM YOU ARE AN EVIL COMMUNIST AND THE AMERICANS WILL KILL YOU ROARRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not the designers fault you spend more time playing the game then they spend making it.

So let me get this straight.
The purpose of any business is to make money. The head of a business makes it clear his goal is to...make money *gasp*
A business makes a product you want to buy, so they can make money. If the product turns into something you (the consumer) is no longer satisfied with, then stop buying it and get a competitors product.

I honestly don't care.
I don't know how many times Ghostcrawler has to tell you before it sinks in that we only make over powered the abilities that benefit our own characters. - Zarhym

"I am not a cog in your machine. It is not my fault society runs on the flawed concept of funds and exchanges. I do what I have to to live and I damn well have the right to at least enjoy what I do while doing so."

Q u o t e: All I saw there was exactly what a stock holder would want to hear and nothing else.
Unfortunately that's not what the customers want to hear, and should therefore not be what the stockholder wants to hear. It's not that he's trying to make money, it's that he's skimping in order to make money, which is bad.
